Rated 5 out of 5Â by Luis629 Excellent performance from a soft plastic
A friend of mine introduced me to this Perfect Plastics shad pattern when going for largemouth on his private lake. At first glance, they look like pretty much any other plastic, but the bass sure didn't seem to think so. We easily hauled in 20+ piece each over 3 hours of fishing near the bottom by the natural cover in the lake. Quite a few 2-3 lb. fish made for a lot of fun and he's hauled in some 5+ lb. fish on this same lure. As others have already pointed out, they are not terribly durable and you can expect that your Texas rig won't hold a weedless hook setup after a few strikes, but that's a small price to pay for such and effective lure. I've bought some of my own since that very successful day fishing with this pattern in baby bass color.

the complaints about this lure tearing to easily are true but i gotta say this lure is pretty good.the action when u jerk it and on the fall is killer.i live in upstate ny n alot of our lakes have LOTS of weeds.this thing is awesome for covering alotta weedy water. i tested this lure out a cpl times n i was killin the it while everyone else was catchin nothing. i ended up using up all of my baits cuz i was catchin so many fish.all in all i wish the lure was tougher but if thats the sacrifice i gotta make to catch some fish so be it.im gettin 6 more packs

I have had so much success on soft jerkbaits from Zoom, Big Bite and YUM recently that I wanted to experiment and give these a try. I did catch several fish on these and I do like them because they sink much faster than a Super Fluke or Houdini Shad. They were also very soft in texture and obviously had the coffee scent. But the one thing I didn't like about these was the durability. Every fish was costing me one of them and by the end of the day I almost went through the whole pack. And for over $5 a pack you would expect more then that. Although they do catch fish, they don't perform much better then the Super Flukes. I can get the flukes for about $3 a pack and I get more of them. Bottom line: good lure, but stick with the flukes.

I was fishing at a pond down the street from me and I decided to try out this lure. I had my doubts but once I saw the action of this bait, a huge largemouth grabbed it . I fish it in the thickest cover and it never gets caught. The only disadvantage is that they fall apart a lot.

What type and size hooks do you rig these with?Answers
A:Â
4/0 or 5/0 CPS Owner hook. The smaller spring lock helps preserve the head and will make the lure last approximately 4-5 fish before having to replace it.A:Â
I use a 4/0 gamakatsu skip gap hook for the 5" shad.A:Â
a 3/0 worm hook for the5 inch seems to help keep the bait fishable for a bit longer. they really are susceptable to tearing easily.A:Â

I have bought several packs of Caffeine Shad and about half of them come with a plastic liner inside holding the jerkbait closer while the other half do not come with that plastic liner? The ones that do not have a plastic liner, are more greasier and I have noticed that they catch more fish than the pack that contains the plastic liner which are not as greasy and are lighter in color. What is that plastic liner for and why do some come with it while others do not?Answers

There is no reason other than to keep the baits separated from each other and formed the way they should be.A:Â
idk why..i think the newer models come with that so the tail dosent get all mangled...its fine it most likely wont affect ur fishing...it happens to me tooDetails:Â
I'm fishing in muddy water with a foot of visibility, so what color should I use?Answers
A:Â
In Colorado, I had very similar conditions to what you described - muddy water with about a foot of visibility. We were backlit with bright sunlight one day and cloudy skies the next. In both sunlight conditions, the Baby Bass color worked extremely well.A:Â
My pond is basically the same. Its very muddy and weedy, i got the cafiene shad in kvd magic color and found that it is a great bait for dirty water. I have caught many 5lb bass w/ this baitA:Â

In dark water you want to use dark colors like blacks, blues and purples. Chartruese, white and other bright colors work well too. stay away from the natural colors in muddy water.A:Â
baby bass or white....anything with some flakes in it should do the trickTop 25 Contributor

Anything darker will be best in the stained water. It is opposite of what you would think.Top 250 Contributor
A:Â
I would say the lighter the color the better. in darker water you need a bait that has a good visual presentation as well as Audio presentation. The bass will more likely go for a white or pearl color rather than a dark color in murky/ darker water.1 of 1
