  • Superior knot, shock and tensile strength
  • Exceptional abrasion resistance
  • Limpness
  • Controlled stretch
There’s nothing like the original! An IGFA world record 573-lb. blue marlin was no match for one of fishing’s most popular monofilament lines. The ideal balance of Stren Original Monofilament's properties includes superior knot, shock and tensile strength plus exceptional abrasion resistance, limpness and controlled stretch. 330 yards.

Clear/Blue Fluorescent - Blue fluorescent above water and clear underwater.
Low-Vis Green - Blends right into algae-tinted water and areas with vegetation.
Low-Vis Clear - The obvious choice for ultra-clear waters.
Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Mono so far This is by far the best mono line I have fished so far. Low memory great strength and very easy to use. If there is a better mono out there I have not found it. April 21, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nothing Better,, Stren Original Mono.. I've been using this mono sense 1971 and will never change to any other Brand,,To me it's worth it's weight in gold,, April 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great line I have been using Stren for 40 years. No other line works as well for this low a price. I trust Stren. April 9, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stren 12lb. - 17lb. I wouldn't even think of using any other mono. I know companies come out with new monos every year, and they are all advertised as the best new thing, but I won't be fooled. This is a very tough, strong, easy handling, high-knot strength, and low stretch line. All monos stretch some, but Stren Original makes Trilene XL seem like a rubber band. Stretch goes down as you go to higher and higher line weights. I strongly believe the color makes a difference, I would definitely skip all other colors and go for the green color offering. Best mono out there until Stren screws up and tries to "improve" the formula. March 31, 2013

5/8 is a little heavy, but I don't like to go above 12 lb. Stren. I use 8 lb. on my finesse rods, and 12 lb. on my general purpose rods. You didn't mention what type rod, but I use 6 1/2' Ugly Stik spinning rods.

For largemouth I like 8 lb. for finesse work, and 12 lb. for general use. I have it on all my spinning rods, and have never had a problem.
