I have used these poppers in clear water to really muddy water and everywhere in between. I have used all the colors as well and have to say that the number one color muddy water has to be the YELLOWEYE PERCH.
The most fundamental rule is to fish brightly colored baits in dingy or muddy water and light, subtle colors in clear water. Exceptions: Most expert night fishermen use black or dark blue lures and most topwater specialists prefer dark-colored baits early and late in the day when visibility is poor, and light-colored baits during bright periods. There's no hard, fast rule.
I would say that these new version would run the same as the old ones. 6 to 8 feet at most. Slow moderate steady crank, very versatile, Bass love them down on the Tenn. river.
I USE THESE LURES WITH TWO DIFFERENT SIZES OF LINES AND I HAVE FOUND THAT IF I USE A 10 TO 14 SIZE LINES THESE LURES WILL GO DOWN TO AROUND 8 TO 10 FEET. I USUALLY USE 17 LB STREND LINE BUT HAVE HAD TO GO WITH A 12 TO 14 LB SIZE LINE.
