I have an 18 foot bay boat with no room for a perminant mount VHF radio. I used this hand held radio over the past week in the Florida Keys. I was able to talk to my brother on his boat over 20 miles on one day, and on another day only about 3 miles. I was VERY impressed with this radio, espically for the low cost. I got it wet a few times too, stood up to my beating. I always use the reviews when I purchase items- if you want my advise: buy this radio.

This handheld VHF is worth every cent. It's an excellent buy for the money. Crystal clear reception, small, and easy to carry. It would be great for an emergency abandon ship kit.
