Rated 4 out of 5 by Good for airplane travel This rod fit well in my carry on suite case for a trip to Florida. Last time i flew my rods were crushed by airline. This rod was with me the hole way so i knew it would make it. The reason i gave it four stars is the case was nothing to brag about. But rod is great & it was not made in China was a plus for me. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for travel I bought this rod because I wanted to be able to put it in a carry on bag on the plane. Broken down the rod and case is just under 24 inches, I was able to put the rod with the rod case in a 24 inch tube (for extra protection) in my carry on bag at an angle and it worked. The rod performed very well, I was very pleased with it. March 27, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Quality rod I got the the St. Croix triumph light fast 6' rod and let me tell you, it's a pretty good rod. I got it kind of backhandedly. The tackle shop I went to didn't really have exactly what I wanted so I settled for this. I was hesitant about a 4 piece rod but after putting it together and casting it you can't really tell. This rod can also handle some decent fish. I caught a 20" pickerel no problem. 3lb bass? No problem. It is also very sensitive when paired with some 10lb braid. I only have 2 small issues with it. After casting for a little while or bringing in a fish the eyelets do go out of alignment so you just have to realign. My other gripe with this rod would be that the reel seat becomes loos too easily; it should be sturdier. But, for the price I dont think it can be beat. September 21, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by great travel rod, no loss of action I live in Colorado, but I bought this for a week long trip to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. I got it first because I love St. Croix rods (I'm from Wisconsin and have been to the factory several times, USA! USA!) and becuase I needed a sturdy pole that could fit easily on a backpack to prevent unfortunate breakage; that also didnt break the bank too much. I found this pole was exactly that. When put together and shook 'er, it remains as stiff as a 1 piece pole would. I easily put it on my pack for multiple portages to keep it safe, interestingly enough my brother snapped the top eyelet on his 2 piece rod while portaging and had to fish with a defunked rod for 4 days. I was happy I got the travel rod then. And I just carried it on the plane with me, didnt have to check it. It does have a case that is kind of soft, so dont be stepping on it or throwing your pack around while it's attached, but it's far better than no case and a 2 piece. I got the ML version to complement a MH rod, I pulled in this northern with 6 Lb test and no leader. The other reason I got it was, I forsee using it Colorado to hike to alpine lakes, it will get along great with my 4 piece (St. Croix) fly rod. August 21, 2013

Virtually every other pack rod builder provides a hard case with each rod--a necessity when the "pack rod" is actually "packed!"

I have a 6'6" and all together with case it's a little longer than a carry on luggage for a plane. I just flew with it and it could not fit in the overhead sideways, it stuck out a few inches. I just put it on the floor between my feet

Each section is basically one-fourth of the total rod length... which varies my model selected.
