I got the the St. Croix triumph light fast 6' rod and let me tell you, it's a pretty good rod. I got it kind of backhandedly. The tackle shop I went to didn't really have exactly what I wanted so I settled for this. I was hesitant about a 4 piece rod but after putting it together and casting it you can't really tell. This rod can also handle some decent fish. I caught a 20" pickerel no problem. 3lb bass? No problem. It is also very sensitive when paired with some 10lb braid. I only have 2 small issues with it. After casting for a little while or bringing in a fish the eyelets do go out of alignment so you just have to realign. My other gripe with this rod would be that the reel seat becomes loos too easily; it should be sturdier. But, for the price I dont think it can be beat.

by portagepops great travel rod, no loss of action
I live in Colorado, but I bought this for a week long trip to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. I got it first because I love St. Croix rods (I'm from Wisconsin and have been to the factory several times, USA! USA!) and becuase I needed a sturdy pole that could fit easily on a backpack to prevent unfortunate breakage; that also didnt break the bank too much. I found this pole was exactly that. When put together and shook 'er, it remains as stiff as a 1 piece pole would. I easily put it on my pack for multiple portages to keep it safe, interestingly enough my brother snapped the top eyelet on his 2 piece rod while portaging and had to fish with a defunked rod for 4 days. I was happy I got the travel rod then. And I just carried it on the plane with me, didnt have to check it. It does have a case that is kind of soft, so dont be stepping on it or throwing your pack around while it's attached, but it's far better than no case and a 2 piece. I got the ML version to complement a MH rod, I pulled in this northern with 6 Lb test and no leader.
The other reason I got it was, I forsee using it Colorado to hike to alpine lakes, it will get along great with my 4 piece (St. Croix) fly rod.

I never own one before but I am extremely pleased with the rod and its performance. I really like the size of the eyes which keeps you line from becoming entangled when fishing in streams from the bank in tight quarters with large amounts of brush. The eyes hold the line tight to the rod. I also like the fact it is so compact great for travel. The handle is cork and reel locking metal mechanism allows you to screw the reel on tight and snug not like the ugly stick two piece rod that use some kind of foam like material for handle and locking mechanism. This foam material on the ugly stick does dry rot if you are not careful.

Exactly what you'd expect from St Croix, great rod! All my other St Croix rods are one piece. I basically bought this one so I always have a rod with me, even if I take the wife's car. Packs up very nicely, only thing is I will probably buy a hard case/tube for it, the soft case it comes with makes me a little nervous. But that's what you get with the Triumph, if you want a little nicer rod and a hard case, step up to the St Croix Premier travel rod at about $180.
