St. Croix® Tidemaster® Inshore Spinning Rods 4.7 5 20 20
Very Nice Rod As I had hoped, the St. Croix Tidemaster has so far lived up to its expectations. The medium action 7 footer is very sensitive and casts superior distances. I am looking forward to the fall inshore bite on the Carolina coast. August 18, 2010
Sensitive & Durable Excellent Rod, its so sensitive that one can almost detect a fly landing on its tip, yet its strong enough to land large trout, Bass... August 3, 2010
What a great rod I had great sucess with this rod . I purchased the rod to fish inshore salt water. I used the rod deep in the Fla everglades for pulling big and I mean big Snook out of the mangroves. The rod had all the power and backbone I needed to pull the snook away from the mangroves and out into the center of the creek. June 3, 2010
nice rod I am using this rod right now with my other setup, it cost more then what people think. Where i fish no one knows its a expensive set up because it looks smaller then what most people use. I like this rod but the price is high, It doesn't have enough action for my preference though. Good rod mine came right from Missouri. May 17, 2010

A spinning reel in the 3000 size would work best. 4000 would probably be going a bit too large. Shimano Stradic 3000, Daiwa Coastal 3000, Shimano Saragossa 3000, are examples.

I use my St. Croix to catch flounder with a frozen shrimp body (defrosted, of course) on a 1/8 oz. chartreuse jig head; hopping slowly along a sandy bottom; with an incoming tide at a pass (but at a non-strong current point) from a ocean/gulf inlet.

A:
For the most part, yes. Most all high end, high quality rods will be constructed with the intention of resisting the elements. However, it doesn't matter whether your rod is $400.00, or $40.00, you still need to practice good maintenance. That means washing down your rod with fresh water every time you come off the water.

A spinning reel in the 4000 size would be a good fit. You wouldn't want to go too much larger than a 5000 and could probably get away a 3000 size reel.

Choose a reel that feels good to you. There are so many options that go well with just about any rod. Go with the brands you like the most. For salt water try to stick with a reel of larger size than fresh water. Like a okuma trio s40. Not too small or too large. should be about the right size and wieght for any type of fishing.

I use a Penn Conquer 4000 and it works extremely smooth. If you choose you can cast 50,60 feet or more with ease, with a 5:1 retrival rate. I purchased both from "PRO BASS".

I do not believe it does. If you are interested in a traveling rod and want a St. Croix check out their web sight. They make quality rods and have many to choose from.

The Tidemaster is one of the best rods I have used. I fish up to 8 of these on my boat on any given day, and there is no rod with the backbone and sensitivity of these St Croix rods.

I have owned the calcutta and it snapped after a few months of fishing in the gulf...never had a problem with st. croix..its seems to have more grunt to it. This has pulled in a 4 foot black tip with a penn conquer with 20# powerpro, the guides are in perfect condition and the braid has never even maked the guides. this was the best 170$ i ever spent on a rod! i highly reccomend you get it...best wishes and tight lines !
