Rated 5 out of 5 by Murdawg What a great rod
I had great sucess with this rod . I purchased the rod to fish inshore salt water. I used the rod deep in the Fla everglades for pulling big and I mean big Snook out of the mangroves. The rod had all the power and backbone I needed to pull the snook away from the mangroves and out into the center of the creek.

Rated 4 out of 5 by captainspeed nice rod
I am using this rod right now with my other setup, it cost more then what people think. Where i fish no one knows its a expensive set up because it looks smaller then what most people use. I like this rod but the price is high, It doesn't have enough action for my preference though. Good rod mine came right from Missouri.

This has to be the best inshore rod I have ever owned. I have a penn conquer 4000 on the tidemaster 7'6" medium power fast tip rod. It is perfect fit. The rod holds lots of stress but yet still has enough whip to throw some of the lighest lure weights. The best rod you could buy is this one. I like the 1 piece shaft , some may have there own opinon but 1 pieces have a better feel to them.

I use my St. Croix to catch flounder with a frozen shrimp body (defrosted, of course) on a 1/8 oz. chartreuse jig head; hopping slowly along a sandy bottom; with an incoming tide at a pass (but at a non-strong current point) from a ocean/gulf inlet.
For the most part, yes. Most all high end, high quality rods will be constructed with the intention of resisting the elements. However, it doesn't matter whether your rod is $400.00, or $40.00, you still need to practice good maintenance. That means washing down your rod with fresh water every time you come off the water.
Choose a reel that feels good to you. There are so many options that go well with just about any rod. Go with the brands you like the most. For salt water try to stick with a reel of larger size than fresh water. Like a okuma trio s40. Not too small or too large. should be about the right size and wieght for any type of fishing.
I have owned the calcutta and it snapped after a few months of fishing in the gulf...never had a problem with st. croix..its seems to have more grunt to it. This has pulled in a 4 foot black tip with a penn conquer with 20# powerpro, the guides are in perfect condition and the braid has never even maked the guides. this was the best 170$ i ever spent on a rod! i highly reccomend you get it...best wishes and tight lines !
Tidemaster rods have SCII graphite blanks which St. Croix ranks as mid-modulus. This material produces rods that are highly sensitive, lightweight and durable. Tidemasters are outfitted with Baston Forecast hard aluminum guides with 316 stainless steel frames, Fuji DPS reel seat and premium-grade cork handle.
