St. Croix® Imperial Fly Rods
Have had the 9ft 5 wt 4 piece rod for over a year now and it performs great, especially considering the price. Made in North American. Excellent at short and mid distance casting (up to about 60 ft). My kids use it because it's easy to cast and they have yet to break it. Do yourself a favour and check it out. You won't be disappointed. Easy warranty program and great value for the dollar.

Fragile with poor MFR warranty
Pole tip section broke while threading my line. The manufacturers warranty was ineffective in resolving their product failure. The Quality Control on St. Croix products is unfortunately lacking and I would look elsewhere (eg, Sage) for quality products of integrity and solid warrantys. Buyer beware!!!

Fits in the overhead, light, casts like a dream!
I recently purchased the St. Croix I905.4 - a nice little 4 piece, 5 wt, 9 foot rod that came with a sturdy case. I've been looking high and low for a good quality 4 piece rod that would fit in an airplane's overhead bin and stumbled on it at BP's Maryland store. Come to Papa!!!
Last Summer's trip to Montana put me over the edge - I was probably the last fly guy in America still checking in his 2-piece fly rods in old PVC pipe rod carrier and paying thru the nose to have the baggage crushers try to flatten it. But no more! This year I'm strapping my dandy new 5-wt to my carry-on and saving the baggage fee for new fly line. And the nicest thing? This rod is sweet!

This is my first 8 wt rod I purchased and just started to fly fish. Tthe rod is extremely light yet powerfull enough to cast a 9 wt line with a huge fly. I tried it on pike and my first catch was a 5 lb small mouth bass that just made my day. I had no problem landing it. I would recommend this as a great mid priced rod.
