The insert is plastic and will not last. I've had two of them and will not buy another. The first one broke after only a few outings so i took it back for a replacement. The replacement lasted a little longer but the insert gave way with no excess strain. Save your money and go with something else.

Bought two of these when I rebuilt my 14' Alumacraft last year. Seemed OK at first, but the plastic insert on the front seat broke after just 6 outings (I'm a 200 lb. guy). Springfield shipped me a new one free with no hassle.
Just took the boat out for the first time this season (boat is always stored in a heated garage) last Friday, and the rear seat insert broke within 5 minutes of leaving the dock.
Never any hard use on these, they're just not sturdy enough to work with any weight beyond maybe a child. Both inserts broke when the seats were in the "down" position, so it wasn't due to running the boat with the poles in place, as Springfield seemed to think.
Suggest finding something with a metal insert.

I have (5) of these in my Targa . Who in the world would make a base pedestal with a plastic insert,
(that can be replaced) ...BUT ...no one sells the inserts, (inside plastic loc/ cup). The Plastic piece breaks easly. So when you break the insert your pedestal seat wobbles so bad it is dangerous to use making base useless. NOW you have to replace the entire base plate in order to use the seat...IT IS JUNK !

Wow. I am actually writing a review about a seat base. Greatest seat base ever. I mean if I was wanting a seat base this is the seat base to have. Nothing like a seat base to really get you excited and write a review. You should by like 100 of these seat bases because it is such a nice seat base. I wish I could afford to build a house out of these seat bases they are really that good. Superman does not hold a candle to these seat bases. Chuck Norris is actually scared of these seat bases.
