I purchased this to help train my young lab. It has worked really well. We use it twice a day for about 20 minute sessions. The batteries have been no problem, and it's all been fairly close range training so far, so I can't comment on that. I always correct by tapping the nick button, not using the constant. I tap tap tap until she begins to respond. My wife actually tried it on herself, and she could didn't even notice it on level 1. I've had to go to level 3 a couple of times, but then immediately go back to level 2 and she responds quickly. The goal is to not even need the collar when we are done, and that is already coming into effect with a couple commands. The only reason that I didn't give this 5 stars is that the collar is pretty cheap looking, and very shiny which means it will have to be replaced before hunting. Overall, a great help in training your dog, and remember to be patient, don't over stimulate the dog, and work at their pace for best results. Also, never give a command unless you can enforce it, or your dog will become collar wise and only obey when the collar is on. We also have a lot of play time before the training, so she associates the collar with fun, and gets very excited as soon as it comes out.

This is an excellent collar and perfect for training larger retrievers. It's important however that you train YOURSELF first on how, when and why to use the reinforcement this collar puts in your hands. It has been an excellent reinforcement tool for training my labs - they actually look forward to having it on and going out to 'work'. If your dog begins to pin back her ears and turn away from you and the collar - you are not training or using the collar correctly and need to quickly adjust your approach and technique.

Use e-collars in the field while hunting grouse and waterfowl. My 10 month lab just wouldnt listen past 50 yards so I decided to try it out on myself.. With my wife running the controller i started walking back to see what kind of range it actually had. It quit working at about 40 yards. Bass pro was great about the return, and my wife cant wait to test the new collar.

i have a g.s.p. very active and hard headed once the bird busted,he would then break point and continue to chase the birds further and further away.light him up once with this and he would stay ten to fifteen yards in front of me.and for a good price, 800 yards is great nothing less.
thanks sportdog
