I bought this 5 years ago as a closeout item at a local shop. It's preformed flawlessly every time since. No wonder they haven't changed it. It works. No elastic to wear out. Simple, fast to reply, and sturdy. If you want cheep, use a tool handle, shaft of a hockey stick, old ski pole, etc and add retaining strap, handle, etc. But if you want a lightweight, sturdy. reliable staff for big rivers this is it. It oscillates a bit in big flows but is sturdy. It's my go-to wading staff.
