I bought a pair of Simms BOA system wading boots and needed studs for boots since they do don't come with them. I didn't know how many to put on the boots since I've always used their felt sole shoe with studs aready in them. They work good but you don't need to many in the boot because they will have you skating around on solid rocks. Wish Simms would have just made the boot with studs in them but they work fine after experimenting with them.

If you need them, and in most cases, I don't, these are great to have on hand. I use them in tandem with the vibram studs, and they tear into whatever you what to stand on. They do make a little more sound, but, you are safe to wade where ever you want to, and you can always take the off when you don't need them, and store them away in your vest pocket.

I bought the new Simms rivertread boots this spring to replace my older freestone felt tread boots. The boots performed well but with the addition of the starcleats they become much more stable. I fish the Housatonic in CT and this is a tricky place to wade. With the cleats on my boots, I spend less time worrying about the next step and more time focused on the next drift.
