Rated 5 out of 5Â by HBS3 Great Boots!
Just used these for the first time over a 3 day trip and loved them! Not quite as gripping as the felt-soled I've used for years, but much better than I anticipated this first time I've used non-felt boots. On a free-stone stream I was wading over a lot of rocks and these were comfortable and performed well.
As this is only my first time using them, I cannot yet rate their durability, but they were very comfortable and felt true to size. I would say that there wasn't much room at the toe, so if I was going to be doing a lot of cold weather fishing, I would buy them a half size big.

I have waded only once since I bought this boot but was happy with the stability in thigh deep water. I wear a 10 1/2 shoe, ordered a 12 boot, and put a store bought insole inside and the fit was perfect.

I purchased these as a substitue for my felt boots and was pleasantly surprised at the durability as well as the traction they provide. As the felt boots, they still will slip on algae covered rocks but not as much as I suspected. They also will accomadate Simms spikes but at another $40. Many of the felt boots just have short screws that will make them somewhat more adherent. The Simms boots have hole which would accomadate screws yet for most of my wading I just don't need them. Make sure you buy at least 1-1.5 sizes larger. I wear a 10-10.5 shoe and bought size 12 which were perfect over neoprene booties, they were easy to get off and on, something that didn't occir with my size 11 wide felt soles.

Bought these to replace my aging felt soles. Much better ankle support and protection overall. Much warmer too. Got one size bigger to use with the neoprene socks, but didn't need to. Had to exchange them for my regular size and even with thick cotton and neo socks, they fit with plenty of room. If you plan on hiking up rocky stream beds, you will want to get the cleat studs. I like how you can mount them in whatever pattern you want. The only downside is the added cost, as why I only gave them 4 stars.

I normally wear a 10.5 shoe. I own Simms Headwaters waders which have a pretty thick sock. Should I go to 12? I am having a hard time getting in to try them on, which I know would be the best solution. Thanks
Nope. Other boots really need you to up-size, but Simms are very comfortable with a match to your shoe size. They know you're going to use a wading sock, and prepared the fit accordingly. I wear a size 11 shoe, and the size 11 Simms boots are very comfortable.
If you do a fair amount of cold weather fishing and need to wear thick socks, then I would buy them a half size up. Otherwise, I think you'll love them. I used these for the first time this past week on a 3 day trip and was very pleased with them.
