Rated 4 out of 5Â by N8XYN Sometimes you dont have batterys!
For the past 700 years people have relied on a compass to navigate . Well times may have changed but there will come the day your GPS fails they do break and batteries run down and good forbid the infrastructure that supports them fails. Do you self a favor buy a compass, carry it and you'll never be lost. This unit is well built and I really like the acrylic base so you can read a map through it. Sometimes low tech succeeds where high tech fails learn a useful skill "How to read a compass)

The reason I bought that paticular compass was becouse my father had one that looked nearly the same exept for the boyscout emblem on the bottom, and his compass is nearly 60 years old and it still works great. so hopefully with confidense mine will last that long, and maybe be given to my son one day.

The Polaris is a good enough compass. In the world of GPS, it's always good to have a backup just in case. I carried this one with me for a few years before upgrading to a field compass with a mirror built in.

NO, if you mean offseting the dial by the local magnetic North declination. That is usually not available on these handheld models. If you need that much precision, go digital or to boat navigation instruments.
Most maps have it shown as an angle in the legend, and you can just add it on in your head..
