Purchased this laser to sight in a new rifle. On a bright sunny day this bore sight tool is useless. While the laser looks normal when pointed at something near the shooting bench. When you point it out at targets from 25yds to 100yds you can not see the laser dot at all. What a waste of money. One may get some use out of this bore sight on cloudy overcast days or near dusk but on a normal sunny day it does not work as a bore sight tool at all. I had to pull the bolt and look down the barrel pointing at 25yds the old fashioned way to get the job done.

Not a bad laser
This works well with pistols - open the breach and insert the 22LR shaped laser and it shoots a strong laser beam out of the barrel. Set your sights on the laser dot and you'll be "Close" to right on. I use it on my Mark II and Mark III pistols and it gets very close to dead on but not perfect. Will NOT work on my SW 617 revolver or probably any 22LR revolver. If you put the laser in the cylinder you cannot close the cylinder. If you try putting the laser in the barrel, the forcing cone (breach end) of the barrel is too small. Stick to pistols and rifles and it works fine.
Wire from battery to laser is ok but a bit delecate. The laser is strong brass and the battery container seems strong. It's a bit expensive but with care should last a lifetime.

Much Better Than Universal-Fit Models
I have three of these and they have all been great to use. I used the 12g to sight in a Burris FF3 and the .243 and .223 for scopes. I have found the caliber-specific models to be far more accurate than the universal models.
As for performance - you won't want to go out at noon on a bluebird day to use these. If you can find 25 yards in the shade, range, garage, basement, etc., then you're set. These will save you the hassle and ammo of initially getting on/near zero.

dead on arrival
I wouldn't know how it worked. It came with 2 dead batteries. I've wasted more than the cost in time and mileage trying to find a battery that will fit it.
