I have owned a Sig 226 in 9mm since 1991. I carried it on duty as a police officer until my department issued us Glock 22's. I used to get my rounds 1000 at a time from a reliable reloader, between the reloads and my duty ammo I only experienced one failure to feed. This was caused by a reload that had an expanded case mouth. I don't feel that that is too bad as I have probably put over 20,000 rounds through the pistol. I am going to buy a new Sig226 or Sig229 in .40 caliber as I like that round better than 9mm. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a reliable, sturdy and highly accurate pistol.

My Sig is a 9mm, so it is a little different than the .40 cal. Mine came with the figure eight sights which took a little getting used to and some adjustment, as they were a little off from the factory. Fortunately, I have some tools and saved myself a trip to the gunsmith as well as the $$.
Now that everything is adjusted, I'm shooting 1.5" groups at 17 yards. I'd say this is easily my most accurate 9mm that I own.
Having done some research online, this firearm is also considered to be a top 5 most durable handgun. How can you go wrong with all of that?

Rated 5 out of 5 by krak best handgun made
I bought this gun in 2006 and i have put several thousand rounds through it (i used to have access to free ammo) i always clean it after every use, even if i only shot a clip through it. I clean it every 300 rounds when im shooting several boxes through it consecutively. this handgun has NEVER failed on me.
it is a nail driver and is so incredibly accurate. hardly any kick at all and im always on point with this gun. very very well balanced.
my only complaint is that when you shoot and the trigger is all the way pushed in, the distance it takes, while letting the trigger out so that it engages and you can pull the trigger again, could be a little shorter... you cant have everything.

The last agency I worked for standardized over to carrying the Sig 226. I had my complaints at first, since we could carry what we wanted to, but I had been using the Sig platform for years and new it to be a great weapon that is fit for duty use.
I carried the 226 in a 40 S&W. While its not my 1st caliber of choice, it will get the job done. This was the first Sig I carried with a tactical rail on it. At first it was different as entering and exiting the holster, it would not slide as easy. With some use on the leather, it turned out to be more of a joy than a problem. Having that extra bit of tension in the holster added to the security of the weapon.
Magazines on the 226 in 40 S&W hold 12 rounds. They make some extensions to carry 15 rounds in the magazines as well. I recommend upgrading to the larger magazines for duty or home defense use. Magazines are quality made and have never given me issues. They are also very well built. Dropping them on the ground over the years, dented them up, scratched them and tweaked them to no other and they still performed.
If your looking for a great duty weapon/home defense weapon or just another shooter, give the P226 a shot. You wont be disappointed
