Shimano® Waxwing® 88 Boy Jigs
Winner, Best Hard Lure Award at ICAST 2010!
Shimano Waxwing System
Can you imagine a lure so deadly, they've built an entire tackle system around it? Here it is! The Waxwing is a flying bullet of a subsurface swim jig—ultimate speed, distance, and power all in one. Fish of all species smash it with abandon. Yes, you'll catch fish...but to get the most out of this super-efficient technique, a Waxwing Rod and a Curado® 300EJ baitcaster together give you a huge advantage. You'll outcast and outfish your buddies by a wide margin, and have a ton of fun in the process!

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Stripermaniac Amazing action at subsurface depths
The two most notable things to mention about this lure are:
(1) it has great action with just a straight retrieve, no rod tip action required. The faster the retrieve the tighter and more erratic it swims. The side to side action is like the "walk the dog" associated with the Zara Spook.
(2) This lure is a slow sinker but will not go below two feet with a moderate retrieve. I have found it works best with a fast retrieve and your rod tip low to the water.
As previously mentioned this lure casts a mile and on a 7'6" rod and 20lb braid this thing flies! Jacks and Cuda can't stand this lure and will strike with a vengeance as it approaches.
Cons: The only cons would be the price and the fact the hooks are set so far to the back. When predator fish strike they sometimes go for the eyes and on this lure a side slash at the front will often result in missed hook-ups. It may be not hydrodynamically possible but a second set of hooks would increase the hook-up ratio.
When the bite is on and you are near a bundle of bait this lure really shines but then again in the midst of a frenzy most lures work. I have yet to catch a snook or redfish on this lure but I assume its incredible action will trigger more strikes in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by CDB3 Awesome Lure!
I decided to give this lure a try since i am a huge fan of Shimano and let me just say they put every bit of quality and performance into this lure as well. First thing i realized about this lure is that it casts a MILE!! I was using a 6'6" Rod and i was casting this thing further than any lure i have cast in the past. I can only imagine casting this with a longer rod or even a surf rod. The distance simply blew me away, looked like a bullet flying through the air! The zig zag action this lure has is very good as well. Awesome lure, will be buying more for sure. Had big Reds and some Jacks trying to kill this thing all day!

I am going to say that without a weight or downrigger this lure will not perform well when trolled. I say this because at high speeds this lure will break the surface. At slow speeds with your rod pointing high in a holder it may stay below the surface, but I cannot guarantee it.I hope this helps
