Good basic levelwind
Matched it to a Tiger Stick. Nice combo and weight balance. Now I just need to catch a fish with it.

This is a greal litle levelwind reel I use this reel to troll for trout in the lakes in then eastern sierra's. This reel is as reliable as it gets. We run leadcore rigs and this reel seems almost custom made for this application.

You're going to have to start somewhere. Read about adjusting the spool and star drag for casting and it will lessen your frustration. I'm happy with its casting performance. From my seated position in my kayak I can cast 80-90' depending on the weight of what I'm casting.
Personally I wouldn't blow this much money on just a reel if I was learning. I would spend the money on a smaller bait caster reel combo and learn from there. Principals are the same. Master the basics and then go bigger.
I have used this reel in international casting compatitions, I didn't win but it was my first time competeing at that level(187 yds) just took out the level winde. there are no bearrings so the spool doesn't get away from you to fast. I also use this reel for plugging all over the south pacific. great for biginers.
some models have left handed versions...just not this model apparently and many of the (same class conventional) reels bassproshop sells have left handed models and bassproshop doesn't offer them on their website for some reason
