Shimano's® exciting Trevala® Butterfly® Jigging Casting Rods give you the opportunity to do battle with some real bruisers using gear that's lighter, more manageable, more sensitive, and fun than what you're used to! Yet they lack nothing for power, as all are built on proven TC4 Construction® high modulus graphite/glass blanks with fast-action tips. Other Trevala Butterfly Jigging Casting Rod features include lightweight Fuji® New Concept Alconite guides, Gudebrod™ thread wraps, Fuji graphite/nylon reel seats, and custom shaped EVA handles.
This rod is unbelievable! Pair this rod with a Penn TRX (Torque) 100-300 depending on the rod size you chose and Power Pro line. (I prefer the 60-130 Lb Trevala with the TRX 200 and 50Lb Power Pro) One of my buddies (Capt PJ Sykes) uses the same rod with the TRX 300. PAir these two together and you will notice the change on your first trip out. First thing you'll notice; Even with the smallest live baits, you'll feel it, even in 200+ depths, second, you can feel your weight hit hard bottom, even tell if it's sand/mud/rock. Then when the stike comes, you know it instantly! This rod is Ultra sensitive and has the backbone of the heavier "Uglier" rods. You will never be sorry for spending the money on this, or the reel for that matter. The TRX reals are another animal all together. I can assure you, you will appreciate your decision. Good fishing, Mike

This is a good rod but not a great rod. A lot of people have had problems with this rod breaking but I think it is from high sticking (trying to point at the sky with the rod tip). It does not have as much backbone as I would like but it is a decent reel for the money. It has a good design and it is built with quality components.

Much "less" for your money!
The Shimano Trevala Jigging rod is a whole lot "less" for your money! But that is not a bad thing. It is less weight than other conventional rods in any given power class. It's lightness and sensitivity make it feel more like a quality freshwater bass rod than the powerful saltwater rod that it is.
I paired my most recent Shimano Trevala (TVC70ML) Rod with a Abu 7000HSN and hollow core braid for a sturgeon trip to the mouth of a large Northwest River. We caught sturgeon to 6 feet long with 5oz and bait. The Trevala rod handled these big fish better than rods that weighed 4 times more! I also caught more fish with it because the other rods were too heavy to hold and the guys fishing them put them down. I held my lightweight Shimano Trevala in my hands all day without tiring and felt every strike!
Catch you on the next cast,

It does not have a metal seat, but we have caught many large sharks on the 65-180 Lb class rods with Penn TRX 200 and 300 Reels. You will be amazed at the rods size Vs backbone. This rod will dominate your rod rack and you may even start sellin off the others. I use a 30-80 Lb rod with a TRX 100 for everything from bait (Cigar minnows and craokers, to snapper/Kings, and even grouper. The 65-180Lb rod has a TRX 200 and I have pulled many 150-200Lb shark along side for release. I carry no other rod or reel than these two now, the others collect dust.
