Shimano's® Tiagra® Conventional 2-Speed Saltwater Reels deliver the smooth and unrelenting power today's performance-minded big game fisherman rely on. Every Tiagra Conventional Saltwater Reel is machined from solid 7mm pipe stock aluminum for relentless strength and secure alignment under duress. Features smooth push-button shifting backed by permanently lubed A-RB® Anti-Rust Bearings for easy handling at all times. Traditional style drag curves on most models provide an area of low drag pressure just above strike level—great for holding baits in the wake, but light enough to reduce the chances of pulling the hook out of the fish's mouth. LRS models feature a special drag curve for fishing heavy lines with extra-tight drag settings.

  • Specially treated A-RB Anti-Rust Bearings
  • Metal frames keep moving parts in precise alignment
  • PermaLube® lubrication for effortless freespooling
  • Ratcheting drag lever
  • Twin Disk Drag System (Ti16 and Ti130 only) for a wider range of settings
  • Ergonomic power grip with soft, nonslip Septon® grip (except Ti16)

Features include:

  • Specially treated A-RB Anti-Rust Bearings—at least 10 times more corrosion resistant than standard stainless steel bearings
  • Metal frames keep moving parts in precise alignment for increased efficiency and durability
  • PermaLube lubrication for effortless freespooling and long-term protection
  • Ratcheting drag lever eliminates play due to boat vibration
  • Twin Disk Drag System (Ti16 and Ti130 only) effectively doubles the drag surface for a wider range of settings and increased durability
  • Offset ergonomic power grip with soft, nonslip Septon® grip (all models except Ti12 and Ti16) allows natural hand, arm and wrist angles for greater power and comfortLine recovery in inches per handle turn.

Tiagra-16: BIG punch in a small package! If you like to tackle BIG fish with light gear then you've got a give this reel a try. Before the advent of spectra, anglers were forced to use bigger heavier reels in the 30-80 size to accomodate line capacity. I was able to get about 400yds of 80lb spectra and still had room for about 100yds of 60lb mono. This is perfect for targeting fish up to 200lbs when flylining bait at closer range. I like to keep the reel in high gear until the fish goes straight up and down and then switch to low gear to winch them in for the gaff. The drag on this reel is awesome and has so far maintained constant and even pressure during long runs dished out by trophy yellowfin tuna and other pelagics. While fishing on a 10 day trip out of San Diego, I was able to land monster yellowfin in the 100-180lb range as fast if not faster then some of the other passengers that were using larger reels. I have no doubt in my mind that I owe this accomplishment to the overall lighter weight of the Tiagra 16 and it's incredible drag strength and cranking power. I've found that fishing with the smaller form factor allows me to concentrate more on fighting and landing fish rather than fighting to keep the rod and reel stable without a harness. Keep in mind that fish of that size are very rare on 10 day trips(and shorter)and that was my main reason for sticking to the lighter gear. It was totally unexpected. When it came down to crunch time I thought I was not going to be able to handle them with this Ti-16 reel. It was the best mistake I've ever made and stand up fishing has never been more fun! Thanks again Shimano for a great product! July 22, 2007
the toughest real money can buy I used the biggest one of this set of reels to catch tiger sharks of the east coast. I landed a 2,500 lb. one on this reel. It's the best and the toughest money can buy. June 7, 2010
TI-16 is worth the green best conventional reel I ever bought. Its light weight compared to what you can pull in. I spooled 200 yards 80lb power pro and finished it off with 50lb momoi brilliant blue mono and havent seen the braid since. July 5, 2009
great i landed a 100 lb white marlin with this reel and it did a heck of a job. i feel that it could have fought a much bigger fish too. July 9, 2008
