The Shimano Symetre FL Spinning Reel features Shimano's ultra-thin M compact body design for a smaller profile, improved ergonomics, and reduced weight. There's also Shimano’s X-Ship technology for outstanding cranking power and smoothness. A favorite for all kinds of freshwater action—and even some inshore saltwater fun—anglers endorse the Symetre's Varispeed II oscillation system that layers the line flatter onto the spool in two different speeds, improving its castability. Other features include an aluminum cold-forged spool, durable stamped bail, Dyna Balance, and five-bearing system for smooth, consistent performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Reel Matched this reel up with a Abu Garcia Veritas. Quality reel. Recommend it!! June 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Value For Money When i first went shopping for a new inshore reel i was told that the Shimano Stradic was the only reel i should even think about. I wanted a reel that had Shimanos X-ship feature (which is really all its cracked up to be) so i went with the Symetre, Shimano's lowest priced reel with X-ship. I have fished a Stradic in 2500, 3000, and 5000 before. the difference between the Stradic and Symetre 3000 is not distinguishable. Great performace, smooth like all Shimanos, nicer color scheme and substantially less expensive. Blows away reels well above the $99 mark. Will definitely be buying more soon! March 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by its a shimano just like any other shimano ive ever had this one also works great. light weight super smooth and i have no doubt that it will last many years. after using other reels such as penn, ive pretty much decided that if its not a shimano, im not buying it! Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome reel. I bought this reel (500 series) for trout and this reel delivers. Casts awesome. Drag is awesome. Fought some good size 4lb trout and had no worries about the reel failing me like some others in the past. I paired this reel with the fenwick elite tech river runner rod. Its a $200.00 setup that is worth every penny. Looking to buy a couple more of these reels. Great job Shimano. November 30, 2013

Picture it like this...
a 2015 Chevorlet Camaro with 400hp for 25k or a 2015 Cadillac Coupe with 300hp.

More bearings doesnt always mean a better reel, gives companies something to brag about thats for sure. In a shimano, youre paying for the pedigree. solid, reliable, and very well made reels. something pflueger cant beat by stuffing in extra bearings

tight line.

I don't know why the Shimano is so expensive, I just returned a Shimano® Symetre® FL 3000 for problems that the salesmen said many others are having with it. He showed me a Pflueger® President® and said they sell twice as many and have few returns. I now have 2 Pfluegers, and they are working just fine one is a Pflueger® Arbor and it is easy to cast long distance with a good rod. Stay away from the Symetre the reel is hard to turn when the bail is open and only gets harder after use. The line hangs up on the little plastic piece and cuts a groove in it. The Sedona is a better buy. without problems. The Pflueger® is the best bet.

A:
Bearing count is a misleading number. Shimano is simply an engineering company that is the most innovative across the board. Shimano builds their reels from start to finish at their own facility and has a quality control department unlike any of the competition. Bearings can be put in many places that they are not needed to increase the count. The big thing to be concerned with is the quality of bearing and the because of the quality bearings that are used in Shimano's reels, they will be the same quality in 10 years as they are the day it is purchased, as long as reel is maintained and serviced correctly.

Shimano rates it for saltwater use. i use a $30 sienna and it works pretty good for inshore. DO NOT DUNK IN SALTWATER. I would never dunk any reel I wanted to use again in saltwater, except for a van staal
