The Shimano Symetre FL Spinning Reel features Shimano's ultra-thin M compact body design for a smaller profile, improved ergonomics, and reduced weight. There's also Shimano’s X-Ship technology for outstanding cranking power and smoothness. A favorite for all kinds of freshwater action—and even some inshore saltwater fun—anglers endorse the Symetre's Varispeed II oscillation system that layers the line flatter onto the spool in two different speeds, improving its castability. Other features include an aluminum cold-forged spool, durable stamped bail, Dyna Balance, and five-bearing system for smooth, consistent performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid reel I have an older series 3000 Symetre. I needed a 1000 series for my light fishing needs. I went with the Symetre as it felt smooth and solid. It looks sharp, too. It provides a good balance on my light rod. Only time will tell if it truly is durable with the new technology. My 3000 is still kicking strong after years of use, so I am not worried. Great price as well. April 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Reel! I own a lot of reels from just about every manufacturer and this is one of the smoothest I have. I have the 2500 size and paired it with a new Shimano Compre 6'8" MH rod. It is a little heavier set up than some other options today, but it is a fish catching machine. There is no wobble in the retrieve and the drag system is very smooth. I use light line, usually 8 lb test is max, so I rely on the drag a lot and it has yet to fail me. This reel casts a mile without trying and doesn't have any issues with line twist or loops like many other spinning reels do. It is worth every bit of the $100 it costs and I will replace other reels with it when the time comes. April 20, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Own 2, want more! Smooth drag, excellent castability, winch like cranking power and they come with a spare spool for line versatility, you can't go wrong! April 14, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by SY-1000FL Remarkably smooth action, and compact but solidly built. This is my travel reel, and it fits that need quite well. March 14, 2013

A:
Shimano rates it for saltwater use. i use a $30 sienna and it works pretty good for inshore. DO NOT DUNK IN SALTWATER. I would never dunk any reel I wanted to use again in saltwater, except for a van staal
