Shimano’s Sustain FG Spinning Reel boasts the company’s X-Ship design, which is said to provide rigidity plus a tremendous amount of cranking power. A Magnumlite CI4 rotor reduces resistance on rotation, resulting in a tremendously smooth action. A Rapid Fire Drag allows anglers to quickly adjust drag to an ideal setting while fighting fish. Other features include shielded A-RB ball bearings; an S® rotor, guard and arm cam; plus an SR® 3D gear and 1-piece bail wire. The reels also sport a repairable clicker and are approved for use in saltwater. An innovative removable “kickstand” keeps the reel propped up, when you lay it down, so that the bail wire won’t get bent, and also protects the reel from scratches. Rated for use with mono, fluorocarbon and PowerPro® lines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Reel I have EVER owned Love shimano reels and have owned many, but this one is the best they make as far as I am concerned. I got it as a gift a while ago and put on a Gloomis rod I bought at Bass Pro. Best combo I have ever fished with. You know its good when all my friends love to try and use it when I'm not looking. Rated 5 out of 5 by Sustain Rocks Purchased Sustain 2500 about a year ago at BP Denver. Was a bit frustrated at first as there was a little gear noise. Shipped it off to Shimano. They never questioned anything. They sent it back saying they replaced a bearing. I could still hear some gear noise. Welllll, I probably was just a little anxious and should have used it more before sending it in. It is so smooth and I have caught many large fish with this now. It is paired with a Wild Black Carrot Stick and they are great together. As mentioned incredibly smooth, and the drag has held up to some very nice pike. November 26, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by wish i could get another This is by far the best reel i have ever used. Its lite, smooth, and very durable. I got the 1000 series for a panfish combo and i feel like i could substitute this on my med. rod because of its power and duability. I have had this rod now for just over a year and brought in countless pike, bass, and crappie with no issues. Its a beauty, try it out. July 14, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Smooth as Silk I was on the lake today with a Shimano Sustain 4000FG and my first impression is the smooth action the reel has.I've fished with every type reel that is out there(baitcaster, spinning ..etc) and like this reel.I'm taking it to my favorite creek next weekend where it will get a real workout. Is it much of a disadvantage to have 15lbs drag instead of 20lbs like most comparable reels?

A:
I have caught some serious fish on this reel in the 3000 series. Little tarpon test it the most and we have had NO issues with fish up to 50lbs on a 3000 series reel! it's expensive, but worth every dime.

A:
Not at all the drag system on this reel is powerful enough and very smooth.

A:
The problem is not the drag force. 15 is more than enough for the freshwater fishing I do. The problem is the drag is oil felt which can be smoked if you fight a salmon for a hour. I would prefer drags made of carbon fiber or ceramics.
