The best reel I've owned. I love this reel. It's a really good casting reel. The 1st time I used it i caught my biggest brook trout. 19/1/2" 3 lb 14oz. The fish got into some swift water. He was pulling drag. I was able to adjust the drag with ease and was able to land him. 2 weeks later I caught 2 more citation brook trout. If you're looking for a quality reel this is the 1!!! Worth every penny Yesterday I bought the CI4+ 2500 and had it spooled with 150 yards of 10 lb. Power Pro. I've paired it with a St Croix Premier ML rod specifically for fishing for trout on the flats in Sarasota Bay. Today I landed a 24" Speckled Trout (a new personal best). The reel performed flawlessly; great distance on my casts, smooth quiet drag, reels like butter, and balances with the St Croix perfectly. Buy a better reel, catch a bigger fish....EZPZ. Excellent Reel I had recently written off Shimano after a lesser model had failed me after less then a year. Also, one of my rod tips snapped off on a snag with less then a year of use. This reel however has been flawless so far. I have already caught well over 100 bass with this reel. Quite a few have been over 5 pounds with no issues with the drag. I have been using it with 50 pound PowerPro Super Slick 8, and I can throw a 1/4 ounce red eye shad lipless crankbait extremely far. I have to use heavy braid because of the amount of cover I fish. I was worried that I would lose casting distance. It was never an issue. April 9, 2014
Superb reel! I bought the 2500 CI4 a couple of years ago. I was a little skeptical about spending over $200 on a reel. This was the best fishing gear purchase I ever made, bar none! I got this baby paired with a 7' Shimano crucial and I couldn't be happier. It handles everything from bass, pike, redfish, grouper and snapper. It's the perfect do all reel. Light weight, smooth drag and casts a mile. I'm definitely buying another 2500 and probably a 4000 for salmon! November 23, 2014

There are several factors to consider in choosing a correct rod with different brands being a personal preference. When searching make sure to select a spinning rod then chose length, weight, and fish species.

I have a 7'-6" Bionic Blade. Balance fits well with the reel and it looks good on the rod.

I like the St. Croix Avid spinning 7' Med-hvy / hvy action 5 handle (AVS70MHF). Lightweight and you cannot beat the lifetime warranty from St. Croix on that rod. If you want a more budget friendly rod you can go for the St Croix Mojo Bass rod. It is not quite as sensitive but its also half the cost and will still carry St. Croix quality.

I have mine on a G Loomis Gl3 medium light 7ft fast action. For fishing bass in slop I'd step up to Medium/Medium heavy. If you're not looking to spend the 240-some odd dollars on a rod, the Johnny Morris CarbonLite spinning rod is a fantastic alternative. Again, medium light-medium heavy depending on structure. The longer the rod, the longer the cast. I prefer a fast action rod because it ensures a stiffer tip with more backbone, whereas medium action will have a softer tip. Hope this helps!
