Rated 5 out of 5 by My #1 Reel I own this and the Quantum Smoke PTs inshore for my fishing Kayak and the CI4+ is my favorite. I have gotten spoiled by the weight (or lack of..). Perfect for repeated casting in my kayak. July 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The best reel I've owned. I love this reel. It's a really good casting reel. The 1st time I used it i caught my biggest brook trout. 19/1/2" 3 lb 14oz. The fish got into some swift water. He was pulling drag. I was able to adjust the drag with ease and was able to land him. 2 weeks later I caught 2 more citation brook trout. If you're looking for a quality reel this is the 1!!! May 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by smooth reeling this is a great bass reel, i use this as my top water and i tell you, the drag set on this is sepurb. this reel takes spinning reels to the max May 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Shimano Stradic FA 3000 CI4+ I got this reel for my drop shot setup. The reel look really good, and was very light but it make a strange noise like something was rubbing inside the case. It really bother me. I read the forums and a lot of people complain about this noise. I got also a Shimano Stradic 2500FJ who has the same internals but has an aluminium case. To my surprise the same noise show up on FJ. After reading more forums, with the same complains, I got some some possible reasons : not lubed well, bad bearings. To be honest my first thought was "junk", but after taking this fishing I was totally amazed. This reel is amazing casts very far (I had a shimano stellus drop shot rod and fluorocarbon line - sunline shooter 7lb). So i changed my mind from "junk" to "amazing" but still I could not have confidence in it because of the noise. At first I relubed the reel, after that was much smoother and quiet (so it's true, it is not properly lubed from factory (at least the ones I got) and is not made from japan anymore), but the main noise did not go away. So I did replace ALL my bearings with the one I trust, ceramic bearings orange seal #7 (kit #FR-240C-OS LD) from bocabearings, also updated the drag to a shimano carbon drag, and replaced the handle bushings with 2 bearings (4x7x2.5mm Ceramic Ball Bearing). Now, the noise went away, and you wouldn't believe how smooth this reel is,unreal that is, it just make me take this rod and start fishing and never stop .... this reel is now mind blowing !!! I like the St. Croix Avid spinning 7' Med-hvy / hvy action 5 handle (AVS70MHF). Lightweight and you cannot beat the lifetime warranty from St. Croix on that rod. If you want a more budget friendly rod you can go for the St Croix Mojo Bass rod. It is not quite as sensitive but its also half the cost and will still carry St. Croix quality.

I have mine on a G Loomis Gl3 medium light 7ft fast action. For fishing bass in slop I'd step up to Medium/Medium heavy. If you're not looking to spend the 240-some odd dollars on a rod, the Johnny Morris CarbonLite spinning rod is a fantastic alternative. Again, medium light-medium heavy depending on structure. The longer the rod, the longer the cast. I prefer a fast action rod because it ensures a stiffer tip with more backbone, whereas medium action will have a softer tip. Hope this helps!

It does not come with an extra spool. However, an extra spool can be ordered. The phone number to the service department is 877-577-0600. You can always visit the Shimano website too at fish.shimano.com
