  • No-nonsense, castable conventional reel built for speed
  • 1-piece graphite frame and sideplates
  • Aluminum spool
  • Stainless steel main and pinion gears
  • Powerful titanium drag system
  • Audible clicker

With certain game fish, such as wahoo, kingfish and tuna, a blazing fast retrieve is required, and Shimano's Speedmaster IV Reel with its blazing fast 6:1 gear ratio fills the bill. The Speedmaster IV is extremely castable due to its star drag system which disengages the spool from the drag. This no-nonsense Speedmaster IV Reel also features a one-piece graphite frame and sideplates, aluminum spool, stainless steel main and pinion gears, powerful titanium drag system and audible clicker.

Line recovery in inches per handle turn.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by west coast I have one that is several years old but not often tested. After upgrading the drags and loading it up with lots of 30 pound mono I took it out party boat fishing for Yellowtail off San Diego. I had no problem with 20 pound Yellowtail. And I was able to land a 35 pound yellowtail lining out live sardines. But i don't think this reel could handle anything bigger than that. Its relatively light although bulky in size, very fast line retrieve, casts well, and relatively strong. recommended December 2, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by SHIMANO for fast ocean fish Awesome reel for kings and works well overall for trolling. Typical Shimano quality. February 28, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by speedmaster somkes Kings What a great bang for the buck. Dont waste your hard earned cash on some 400.00 over rated reel. This reel is set up on a 7' Star rod has already seen its share of Kings and Muttons. Go buy this reel you wont be sorry. Great 6:1 ratio easy to keep up with those Kings trying to smoke your reel. Rated 5 out of 5 by Driftin' for snapper Drift fishing is an economical way to enjoy fishing, eating some of the most delishous fare from the ocean, and saving gas. However you often end up with lots of line out. The high speed of my Shimano is just the ticket!. Thank you for the courtious and prompt service. June 15, 2010

A:
It can be casted if you are surf fishing using bait and weights. Its too big and bulky for constant casting with lures.

A:
Yes you can. Its one of the benifits of this reel and would make a great surf reel. Keep in mind that rod choice is just as important.
