What you need in southwest florida I purchased this rod with a penn battle 4000 and threw 20lb braid on it. This set up is a great all around spinning rod for most of the desirable fish in southwest Florida (redfish, snook, tarpon, jack). I purchased the 7'2 MH so I had some extra backbone for fighting snook in the mangroves. I purchased this rod specifically because it was light and had great action so it was natural choice for artificial lures and soft plastics. I generally fish at the Naples pier during the day and on my buddy's boat at night hitting the deep glows and snook lights. This rod allowed me to skip under docks with no problem and pull in 25" snook like I only had bait on the end of my line. Great feeling. Couldn't be happier. And with the warranty I know I could pretty much put this thing in my garbage disposal and get it fixed or replaced for no cost to me. Perfect for what I'm doing. October 3, 2012
good for the price Got the 7'2 medium heavy rod for a year now. pro: lightweight, i can cast all day and it feels like im holding nothing. can handle daily use (mines still feel/look like new), long 12inch handle, excellent fuji oxide guides con: action feels more like 'medium' than 'fast' cuz i got a shimano clarus with fast action as well and the compre feels like a medium compare to the clarus. though i'm not sure if this is due to the compre being an inshore rod and my clarus being a freshwater rod. biggest problem would be the multipurpose hook-keeper. if i retrieve too fast my lines will get caught around the hook-keeper. my friends also got shimano rods and this is a constant problem. but other than those two problem this is an excellent rod November 23, 2014
7'6" MH I purchased this rod on line and a Pflueger President reel. Guess what. The reel foot would not fit in the rod seat. (BE ADVISED NOT ALL REELS WILL FIT THE ROD SEAT) Rod seat is too short for the Pflueger reel foot. I'm sure this Shimano rod is a great rod but unuseable with my reel. I returned the rod to Bass Pro and they were very understanding and helpfull in fitting me up with a St Croix Premier 7'H as a replacement at no additional charge. Needless to say I'm a happy fisherman. Now i'm off to the northern Calif. coast to do some serious fishing. June 1, 2012
Short reel seat Don't know why the 1st reviewer gave this a 4* since he could not use it because of the short reel seat. I am giving any rod that cannot fit any reel a 1* if the reel I buy to go with it will not fit. This is just the manufacturer not meeting the needs of their customers and I'm tired of it. I had not bought Shimano rods till recently but were really impressed with a couple I had bought until this problem. No more, back to Ugly Sticks which I can depend on. Or maybe I'll try Star's but I'm leery of there breakage problems. March 26, 2013

A:
Yes, SKU: 1849279 would work for fishing for Cobia.

Cobia can be caught by spinning, plug casting, bottom fishing and by trolling. If you have never fished for them before, it is probably best to start with a 7’ medium weight spinning or casting rod. Heavier casting rods tend to be a bit better for offshore fishing around markers.

Technique

Rod: Spinning / casting 7-8’ medium weight

Reel: Spin or casting, medium weight

Line: 12 – 20 lb tested mono or braided

A:
Warranty was lifetime over the counter replacement but now you can no longer swap it over the counter. You gotta fork up 30 dollars or so to ship it back to shimano for a "chance" at getting a replacement rod. If they deem your rod broken due to reasons other than craftmanship flaw then you are out 30 dollars for shipping
