I own two of the newest Chronarch 200 series reels and 1 Curado and this reel puts them all to shame. Granted, the Chronarchs and Curado are great reels but the responsiveness of this reel is unparalleled especially for the price. This real literally takes everything from the Core series and improves upon it (minus the Magnesium sideplates of course which are extremely durable in all conditions). Casting this reel is silky and with the new braking system I was able to cast directly into the wind this past weekend with 15mph constant winds (30mph gusts) with no backlash and it still cast very far. I loaded up on a 3.5 pound smallie and reeled her in like it was nothing. I would highly suggest getting the 7:6:1 gear ratio as it allows you to keep tension on those fast moving fish... All I can say is I will be buying a lot more of these very soon!

Rated 5 out of 5 by discerning2 Another winner from Shimano!
I own several Chronarchs, and have been an avid user of Shimano products for more than 20 years. I paired this reel with a G. Loomis G-3 7ft rod, and let me tell you, this is a winning combination. Shimano has taken a little different approach with the reel brake, using a paddle rather than sliding weight system, and it is accessible outside the reel, rather than opening the side. I put Seagar flourocarbon 15lb on it, and this reel sings! I typically outcast my companions who are throwing Shimano open bail spinning reels, and it surprises them each time. My first time out, I landed Redfish in the 25" range, and Speckled Trout in the 20" range, and the rod and reel made it no sweat. Plus, this Loomis blank was perfect for fishing when the fish were doing little more than picking up the bait and holding it. I could feel every bump, plus, the light weight of the combination made it a dream to throw artificials hundreds of times each time out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RossM Finally! External centrifugal brake adjustment!
I've fished exclusively with Shimano low-profile baitcasters since 1984! Unfortunately, to get access to some of the latest refinements and cutting-edge technology, I resorted to importing several of the JDM (Japan Domestic Market) models. It seems that Shimano has seen the demand for these top-shelf products and is now selling the Metanium and Antares stateside!
One of my favorite JDM reels was the Scorpion 1000, because of the external adjustment to the centrifugal braking system. I longed for that in another Shimano for several years and saw that it was being included in the Chronarch CI4+. After winning the Best at ICAST 2013, I knew I had to try the CI4+ out.
Verdict: It is the best Shimano baitcaster I've owned to date! Throws with absolute silky ease and the external brake adjustment works flawlessly, especially in windy situations.
I will be buying more of these! Thanks BassProShops!
