Just what you'd expect from Shimano, clean look, very smooth action, casting, Zero backlash in reeling VBS system works great, only gripe i have with it is the fact that most of the internals are plastic and to a newer fisher may be a bit weary of dissassembly for oiling.

I perchased this reel manly for channels and flatheads. I read a lot of good reviews prior to buying this reel. However when I received the reel I was disappointed with the quality of the reel, it has a lot of plastic parts, remember it is a Shimano , but a low end reel from them. So I returned this reel and got an Abu Garcia C3 6500. In my opinion the C3 it the best baitcaster reel you can get for the money.

A great reel! I use it for striper and catfish. The reel is very smooth with no problems.

I brought this reel (300A) for summer fluke fishing at the jersey shore and was extremely satisfied with smoothness and performance. I spooled with 30# powerpro braided line, never had any failures to hook up when went to set the hook. One word of advice, if using braided line use mono backing or the little foam pad (supplied with powerpro) to prevent slippage on the spool. Had a problem at first, talked to shimano and worked out the problem was line slippage and not any issues with the drag or the reel. I plan on getting another for next season.
