Rated 5 out of 5 by Great reel awsome Got hook on reel when using a family members. i have a 300 TE and its bad to the bone. Use for big swim baits and cast like a rocket. Cast great even in wind and the vbs system helps alot. Not very many back lashes at all which is good. had a 7 year old cast it didnt even back lash.I looked at price but really didn't even keep that in mind, just thought about the years it will last given i maintenance it. will truly last forever the way its built. Its worth every penny and wouldn't get any other reel for swimbaits but this one. August 31, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Calcutta Great reel can catch big snook, redfish, and trout with no problem you can even use it for bass fishing in the heavy stuff . Cast light lures and live baits well. The clicker is reel handy too. I have my on a 7M Hurricane Redbone Rod spooled with somewhere around 260 yards of 30LB power pro braid. February 23, 2011

I've had some recommendations come from some friends of mine, that this reel would be ideal for Musky and Northern. Even though they don't one one.

Though when I see that the reel has a maximum drag of 16lbs. I've have to ask, if this reel (300 or 400) is really suitable for fishing for species such as Musky and Northern? Or would I be better off with something else?

I have the cte401 lefty model, I would not use it for fresh water too big. I never used the 300 model it might do the trick.

I use the Teramar by Shimano on my Te 401. Model # TMC76h I use the heavy rod for horsing large stripers away from rocks and piers. I just purchased a kayak and this rod will also work for trolling the tube and worm rigs. This rod cast excellent and I can handle anything with this setup. The reel works great and has all the features you need. Good luck!!!

i use this reel to throw swimbaits. i have a loomis heavy swimbait rod. but i also know people use these reels for some saltwater inshore fishing. but i would say a 7' heavy rod would be about right. great reel by the way
