I absolutely love this reel. Best reel I have owned yet. I have the 400 and use in the saltwater. The drag system on these things are killer. I like the smaller drag star, stays out of the way when fighting big fish. This is the smoothest reel,I have ever had in my hands. Only downer is that it's a bit pricey, but well worth ever penny. I live in San Diego and have pulled in some monster fish with my 400D. There is no other bait caster in my arsenal that can do this. It's like a mini conventional reel. It's also perfect for throwing the big swim baits out here at our lakes. I am not sure what some of these other guys are talking about, but I have been buying Shimano reels since the bantams and this is hands down there best. I have a couple first gens Calcuttas as well as a couple B's and a 300TE. This reel is much smoother and stronger than all of them. Tell me who of you that own a reel that can pull in 40pound class yellow tail no problem. I can't wait to kick some muskies butts this summer in Canada.

Only used on one redfish trip. No complaints but I do prefer the older,"gold" one though.

I can only give 4 stars as I haven't used this yet in the field..but I am tired of reading these reviews on this reel when none of them mentioned how nice it is on the fly! I used my friends reel and I had to buy 1. It is extremely light..pairs perfect with the shimono rod. It looks great! Feels great! And this reel is smooth. Once u take time to set ...no need to adjust again. It's unique and yes..costs a little..but at least you won't have every angler with your rig! Also..here in Florida we saltwater and freshwater fish and this reel will rock both! Believe what you want! Try for yourself.
