The Shimano Caius Baitcast Reel is ideal for everyone from experts to entry-level anglers. What elevates the Caius above other baitcasters is its castability and control. A 6.5:1 gear ratio allows it to handle a wide range of lures. Other features include Superstopper and Shimano's Easy Mag® II brake system. Of course, it doesn't hurt that this versatile, low-profile baitcaster improves the looks of just about any rod it's teamed with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Beginner Reel I haven't had any problems with the Cauis Reel. It has a great ratio(6.5:1) that allows anglers to throw many different types of baits on this reel. Overall a great affordable reel. April 16, 2013

A:
You can use this reel for salt water but its not ideal. this being more of a fresh water reel will make this reel in salt water actually wear down really quickly.

i own quite a few shimanos and use them all in saltwater. none of them have been the more recent models like yours but it should be fine. i havent had any problems with mine so far. and one i have had for about 4 years now and it works perfect. you just have to make sure you are rinsing them after each saltwater use and cleaning them every few weeks. lightly oiling them will help against salt. but to much oil will affect casting distance.
