Shakespeare Ugly Stik Tiger Casting Rods
Big Striper on my Tiger Rod!
This review is for my Medium action 6' 6" BWC 2201.
I've been using the Ugly Stik Tiger Casting Rods for 6 years now and I trust them for all of my planer board rods. These rods have taken on some big stripers over the years for me. I love their durability and for a rod to survive 6 years in my boat, that's saying something! Here's another big Lake Lanier striper. This fish was caught on 12-20-2013. You can see the Ugly Stik Tiger rod being put to the test once again.

Fantastic for the money
I brought the 6'6" model down to Cayo Coco, Cuba with in me back in January (2014#. I wanted the spinning version of this rod to pair up with my Penn Battle 7000, but only the casting model was available at the store. I was short on time, so I grabbed it anyway.. and oh boy, am I glad I bought this rod. I took the combo out on the boat with a local guide, and used it to troll for barracudas #we caught more than I could count#, then went jigging for tuna. This baby performed beautifully with an 80lb tuna #estimated) on the line... While I fought the fish, I had no doubts in my mind that the rod would hold up. I didn't land the fish.... the leader gave out after I handed the rod to the guide for a rest... but these things happen. I can't stress what a fantastic rod this is. A rod that can handle the big boys at this price is a no brainer. I can't wait to use it again when I go back in November.

What a great value
Every year I take kids fishing that never fished in their lives. I buy a few rods and reels so they take them home as well. I am not rich but I do know that they will keep their rod and reel in memory and its a great thing to see them grow up over the years.
I used to buy packaged combo sets in the $50 range. Rod and reels by SouthBend and such and noticed that the reels may last a couple of season or so and the poles last about the same length of time even with maintenance. About 5 years ago, I started buying Ugly Stiks and the rods always return in good usable condition.
My son's grade school class kids are now in college, soldiers or moved to other states and only a few of them are around to jump into my boat and go fishing now. Yes, I have my custom rods and such but I take my Ugly Stik to be part of something that feels good and gives good performance. One of the kids showed up the other day in his pickup truck with a fishing rod and reel unsecured in the bed of his truck. I said it should be tied and he said its an Ugly Stik and he's never seen one break, besides, I introduced it to him over a dozen years ago.
That Stephan is going to be a good dad one day. Ugly Stik, get one, own one and take a kid, no, a bunch of kids fishing and you will be remembered.
Through the years, I have taken new kids fishing and even young men and ladies fishing. Its a good feeling
