when i first bought this rod i used for yellowtail fishing, and for bait until while yellowtail fishing i hooked up a ten pound mutan snapper. I respooled it with 20 pund test and it worked really well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by SuperFish777 Not the best reel, but with an awesome rod.
This product is good. If I could give separate ratings to the rod and to the reel it would have to be a five star to the rod and a 3 star to the reel that is why I gave it four stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jugga Good For Beginner
I purchased the 7' rod version of this rod and reel combo about 3 months ago and used it about 15 times. I've used it for beach, bridge, and kayak fishing, catching snook, mangrove snapper, sea trout, and sheepshead with it.
The reel held up well until a few days ago I was fishing in a kayak with it and it locked up, bad. I took good care of it as well washing it in freshwater after every use of fishing. Your gonna get what you pay for in reels like this, for the rod though it is still fine.
Overall the combo is good for beginners to get into fishing, but don't expect the reel to last over a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CSadlo They Work!!!
Purchased two of these Ugly Stick combos and took them Fluke fishing the next day. My wife caught 11 fluke and I caught 7 and a blue fish.
I found the reels easy to use (as did my wife who is a novice) and the rods were both sensitive and strong.

would you recomend using this for just learning how to surf fishing? Will this rod and reel get this job done?Answers
A:
Yes, this is a great reel for begging surf fishers, or any type of inshore fishing.A:
It is unlikely this setup is ready for surf action. Depending on where you live, you should have more length to the pole. Check and see what others are using in your area. This setup is a great deal but I would recommend a salt water reel with SS bearings and mainshaft....A:

It tells you on the list up to 20lb,,, but you can go more with these rods,,, i do.Details:
I would like a very strong shakespeare ugly stik rod for saltwater fishing 2 piece that can be able to handle up to 50lb fish. NB - The rod must be very sensitive clear tip touch, very strong and must be very light in weight. It also must bend a lot when fish bites the hook, even for small bites(Very imp). The rod must also be very thin ( because i hate fat rods ), very sensitive and able to handle very big fish on the rod itself. Which model do you recommend me buying? thank you and im awaiting your immediate reply.Answers
A:
Go with the 20 or 25lb test ugly 6ft 6" you can play and haul in big fish,,,,i have. And i can hold one all day without tireing... ugly stiks are the best in my book... and the price is rigjt for a good rodTop 1000 Contributor

Wow! With all of that detail, you leave out critical stuff like preferred length, "spinning vs. conventional," line type, what reel you intend to use, and what type of fishing you do! With all of these caveats and making a lot of assumptions, it sounds like you are looking for something like a UCSP 1102.Answers
A:
Yes they are,,,,,but the reel itself is poor,,,most people change the reel to a good one. The rods ate number 1 grade awrsomeA:
