I have used the 7Ft. medium action ugly stik lite on just about everything inshore, to include Flounder, white Perch, Weakfish, Stripers, and the occasional largemouth. This rod has a great feel, is very sensitive, has good hook setting power and is an overall joy to use. I love the cork grips which mate nicely to your hands. I have tossed lures with it and bottom fished with it as well. I have occasionally taken it out on charter boats for Flounder when I go out with friends, and I always catch more fish most of the people on the boat. I attribute this to the rod, because it is very sensitive. I have rods that cost three times the price but this is still my favorite, after four years of use.

An Ugly Stick Lite was my first "real" rod. I bought the first one when the 7' model only had 5 or 6 guides! Replaced it with a new 7'er when they added the model with 9 guides. The rods are fantastic for bobber fishing, bottom fishing, and live bait fishing. The action is a little slow, and the rod is a bit heavy (despite its name), so I don't think it's a great rod for plastic worm or jig fishing. The one exception is I use it with 12lb. mono, 4/0 worm hooks, and 5" unweighted Senkos sometimes. A great first rod choice, very versatile, and very tough so it can handle long fights with big fish no problem.

I recently received this rod and only had a few chances to use it. I bought the 5' UL and man, it's crazy. The tip is very whipy and the rod is pretty light. I have it set up with a Shimano Sienna w/ 15 lb braid and it cast pretty well. Haven't caught anything yet but can't wait until I do. Tight lines everyone.

i have a pflueger president xt 6740. what would match it for walleye fishing, small and large mouth bass?Answers
A:Â
I use the 7 foot Medium Heavy for largemouths, walleye, and catfish as well as inshore saltwater. It is very sensative for fishing dropshots for Smallies and can handle large Walleyes and even Muskies.Top 50 Contributor

Your choice of length in a ML would do just fine.A:Â
Your size 40 reel should work very well with the Ugly Stik Lite, original Ugly Stik and the Lady Ugly Stik in a medium 6 1/2' or our preference is the 7'. I own all three of these and I think that the Lite and the Lady versions are a bit more limber than the current production original. They are also thinner and lighter with the same strength as the original. My wife and I fish them with 10# Trilene XL line when casting and retrieving for bass when we are in the South. Up North where there are no bass we use the 15# Tuf-Line XP for bottom bouncing and trolling for walleye and pike. These rods are flexible enough to put on a lighter leader or switch to a 6 # or 8# Trilene XL and fish for panfish and perch. These rods are rated for 6# up to 15# lines. With these rods being so flexible they do make decent trolling rods. I have on rare occasion caught that very large 35+ pound channel and /or catfish that I was not even fishing for. These rods handle the big fish just fine. These fish do bend the rod over double but the fish cannot break this ugly stikThese are not the most sensitive rods and they are not the best trolling rods but for a single rod to use for all around fishing they work well for all applications including the lighter salt water fishing. They are also not bad rods for use with steelhead/trout and salmon.
I use these with a couple of different brands of size 40 spinning reels and my wife prefers a trigger reel and they also work well with these rods.
I bought a couple of the first Ugly Stik rods about 30 years ago. I own several specialized and more expensive rods. Like I said you cannot beat these Ugly Stiks for good all around rods.

I want to purchase one UL or ML 7" 2 piece as a back-up rod. I wonder how noodle-like are they? Are they good for working cranks, inline spinners in fast-flowing streams?Answers
Top 25 Contributor
A:Â
they are usually moderate action. From my experience they have a lot of flex and noodle to them. All sports and fishing places pretty much have them so you can go try them out before you order one from bass pro shopsAnswers
A:Â
Most definately. I use it for inshore and can handle a 36 inch red. It can double over and not break. Hooked a 30+ flathead on the Tennessee river and rndles it beautifully.A:Â
yes it can ive caught quite a few 10-13 blue cats on thisA:Â

I think it's about personal preference, but ugly stiks are insanely tough rods so I'm sure they will hold up. You'd need a quality reel though.A:Â
I've used the Johnny Morris 7 ft Med weight spinning rod for salmon fishing -- however, I prefer the additional power provided by the Medium Heavy model when targeting fish of this size -- specifically 5 - 40 pounds.Details:Â
This stik is only one piece or we can divide or separate it in different pieces?Answers
A:Â
The Ugly Stik Lite are both one piece and two piece. The only one you can separate is the two piece and you can split it in half in the centerA:Â
Lookat the model number. If it ends in something like "2UL" it is a 2 piece ultra light. "1UL" is a one piece ultra light,A:Â
they come in both 1 piece and 2 piece.A:Â
The 5' is one piece anything up from there is two pieces. But for your sake save yourself $39 and buy the 5'6 or the 5'2 had two of the 5' ones break within a week of each other with 4 pound test braided line on and that did not break. The durability of this one piece is very poorTop 25 Contributor
A:Â
I think they mostly come in 2 pieces - although some do come as one piece. Check the websiteDetails:Â
i want a longer rod that has sensitivity and also backbone. any suggestions?Answers
A:Â
I would say the Medium Heavy is the best for bass (depending on size around your area) but the Ultra Light has plenty of backbone for an ultralight rod.Top 50 Contributor
A:Â
Depends on your preference really. If you like to see your rod bend when landing big fish I say go for it. Ugly Stik's are super tough rods..I wouldn't worry about breaking it. Invest in a good reel and set your drag properly and you can land almost any fish up to a reasonable size. I landed a 5 FT Sturgeon on a 6'6 Light rod and size 20 reel.Details:Â
I am interested in a 5'6 to 6' rod. I want the strength level to be strong enough for lake bass, but our lake also has trout so I want it sensitive enough to enjoy catching good sized trout. What Ugly Stik "action level" would you recommend?Answers
Top 500 Contributor
A:Â
Medium LightA:Â
i'd go with the 6'Top 50 Contributor
A:Â
I'd go for a 6'6 Light if you're not interested in horsing those bass in. It's light enough for trout, and Ugly Stik's are always tough as nails. If you can't get a Light, a ML will do as well.Top 25 Contributor
A:Â
Well a medium/light ML would be great. It can handle about any size bass. I have never heard of or seen an ugly stick breaking. Even a light action rod would probably be fine.Top 500 Contributor
A:Â
I'm a fan of Ugly Stiks. But for most fishing over the last two years, I've actually moved on. I didn't realize the difference in feel of the more expensive graphite rods as compared to Ugly Stiks until I tried some out. I haven't looked back...That said, an Ugly Stik LITE in a medium to medium heavy will be your best bet. The more noodle-like the rod (whippy), the less hook-setting power you'll have, and the lesser sensitivity as well.
You'll have plenty of backbone in the MH, a little less in the M to horse in big bass, lake trout.
Hope this helps.

What is the best reel under $100 for the 5'6 light action rodAnswers
A:Â
A very affordable reel that I usually prefer over some of my much more expensive Abu garcia and Quantum reels is the Daiwa Crossfire. It comes with 2 spools so I have one rigged with 20 lbs PowerPro and the other with 8 Lbs Suffix Fluro for dropshotting. The crossfire is only $30 but feels like it would be 300.Top 50 Contributor
A:Â
BPS Micro Lite reel and rod is a real good choice for a sub $100 setup, go check out the reviews.Top 25 Contributor
A:Â
Got to be honest, you can go wrong with the Bass Pro extreme reel. It is really solid and that would keep you under $100A:Â
i put a quantum nomad on mine it cost around 30 and was quite pleased with itTop 100 Contributor

Any reel in ultralight to light will work just fine a Pflueger President is a quality reel under $100.Details:Â

Could someone please tell me the purpose/importance of this tiny guide near the handle of the rod? I have the 6'6" M 2pc.Counting the guides, including this tiny one, I would have 9. If I only counted the main guides starting with the largest base one going towards the tip, I would only have 8.
Thank you.

A:Â
That is not a line guide. It is a place to hook you lure when you're done fishing.A:Â
Its to put your hook on during storage, so you don't eat up your guides.A:Â
Boy don't I feel stupid.Never had a rod with a hook holder like that.
I slipped line through this while putting line on my spool and it helped keep the tension tight, so after my reel was spooled I just took it back out and re-guided.
Thanks guys.
A:Â
That is to fasten your hook or lure to when you aren't using your rod.Do not run your line through it as doing so will restrict your casting distance.
