Shakespeare Ugly Stik Inshore Select Spinning Rods
Very Nice Rod
I was looking for a light inshore spinner rod and hit the Rancho Cucamunga BPS on black friday. I examined, pulled on, and handled about every rod in the place. I was impressed by the finish and feel of the lightest of the Inshore select rods, even over rods that cost much more. I purchase the rod and matched it up with the smallest of the Penn Fierce spinners and 15lb Tuffline braid. Fished the rod a few times in San Diego Bay and caught several spotted bay bass. Love every thing about the rod. Realy like the feel of the split grip. Sadly, on Dec 15th all my gear including this rod was stolen from my garage. I tried to replace the rod but found they were out of stock. This was my first Ugly Stick and I will definately get 1 or more of the inshore selects in the future.

I was a bit concerned when I ordered the rod about the weight. Past experience with ugly sticks is that they tend to be heavier than advertised, but I got a surprise with this rod. It's very light and very strong. It's baptism of fire was a 20 lb snook on 10# test fluorocarbon. Coupled with a Shimano Sedona it's a winning combination. Only down side was that I had to pay a $38.00 shipping charge because I ordered the 7'6" model and the US post office couldn't deliver it to Puerto Rico so it had to be delivered by FedEx.

Ugly Stik is Awesome
I own several saltwater rods and reels. I own Penn Spinfisher SSV 6500 spinning reel and it is on the Ugly Stik Tiger 10 to 50lb spinning rod. I also own the Penn Battle 6000 spinning rod/reel combo. These two rods/reels are comparable. Next I own the Penn Spinfisher SSV 4500 spinning reel and it is on the Ugly Stik Inshore Select 8 to 20lb spinning rod. I also the Penn Battle 4000 spinning rod/reel combo. These two rods/reels are comparable. Both of my Ugly Sticks are far more sensitive rods than any other rods I have used on the water or flexed in the store. The subject of this review, the Ugly Stik Inshore Select spinning rod, is an excellent rod. It has tremendous sensitivity, yet it is rated for 20 lbs. That is great for Galveston Bay redfish and trout. This is the best medium action rod on the market for 20lb+ fish. It costs more than the combo, but you can unquestionably feel the difference.
