Rated 5 out of 5 by BRAVO!!! OVER THE YEARS, I HAVE USED MANY DIFFERENT BRANDS OF RODS. NOW THAT THERE IS A LIGHTWEIGHT INSHORE UGLY STICK LINE, I DECIDED TO GIVE THE UGLY STICK ANOTHER TRY....WOW!!! AWESOME ROD, GREAT SENSITIVITY AND STURDY!!! SOME OF THE OTHER RODS HAD COST ME 3X THE PRICE AND DID NOT PERFORM ANY BETTER. ONLY DOWNSIDE , AND IT IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE, THE HANDLES WOULD BE BETTER IF CORK WERE USED. OVERALL, SHAKESPERE HAS WON ME BACK....TRY ONE OF THESE INSHORE UGLIES OUT AND GET OUT THERE AND FISH.... November 10, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by best rod in the whole world i got two of this rods and im happy i mke this choice, they are strong light and easy to use, i love the way they bend and love the way my real drag screams, best choice i have ever made. October 6, 2010
Rated 3 out of 5 by Okay, needs work tho Good inshore rod, guides could be a little larger towards the top though, leader knots hit on every cast. Ordered two of these, one of them works great, the other had the guides completely out of alignment, will return in next few days for a replacement or store credit. All in all pretty nice, lightweight, good sensitivity and strong. October 4, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT ROD Didn't want to write a review until I actually put it to use. Simply an awesome rod! Just got back from fishing in the Fla. flats and was extremely impressed by action and feel of the Saltwater Ugly Stick! I commented to my fishing partner as to the sensitivity of ever hit,, It now has the nickname of The Golden Rod. Great value for the money and tuff enough for anything that was hooked. Highly recommend it, and by the way for the first time I caught the most Trout!! September 27, 2010

What is the action of the rod?

Answers

A:
the action is relatively stiff and can handle bigger baits and live bait easily. the tip is soft and you will be able to feel the softest of bites. rod is light but can handle big fish.

The medium light is the lightest of this model but serves perfectly for flounder, redfish, blus and spanish.
The medium action works well on larger drum and has landed 15-20 pound sharks for us.

is this rod for me???

Details:
Looking to purchase a rod to match up with a penn battle 5000. i will be doing mostly surf fishing and other places along shore, could end up goin into open water with it. thinking of spooling 20lb braid and a 30lb mono leader..also do you suggest backing before the braid?

WILL THIS GET THE JOB DONE?

The medium light would not be a good candidate for this, the medium heavy could do it.

A:
no, you would need a bridge net.
I have used this rod and it is not a lifting rod especially for 30in stripers.

The reel seat clearance is the draw back to these rods, check with the reel you intend to use before buying.

A:
The rod will handle that reel but it will be alittle heavy. I was using a pflueger presidente with my rod, 7.6 mh, for stripers off a boat down near the gas docks (calvert cliffs) on the Chesapeake. If you're gonna be casting alot try to keep with a smaller reel to lesson the strain it puts on your arms. You can just load the reels up with braid if you are worried about lb test/yds

It will definately handle Redfish as I have already caught some ... have the 7 foot med. and just received a 7 foot 6 med. heavy. I have swapped over some of my more expensive reels to these rods because I like them so much. You will be happy with either one.
