This Shakespeare Ugly Stik Catfish Rod and Reel Combo is a well-matched, affordable set-up featuring the world's toughest graphite composite rod - the Shakespeare Ugly Stik! Built for long casts and handling big cats, the medium-heavy Ugly Stik Catfish Rod features the Ugly Stik quick-taper Clear Tip® design and blank-through-handle construction for added strength and reliability. The Ugly Stik Catfish Rod is paired with Shakespeare’s smooth but powerful Synergy® 20 spincast reel featuring one ball bearing, spool applied adjustable multi-disc drag system, on /off anti-reverse and bait clicker. Polished stainless steel front cone and lightweight graphite frame give the reel added toughness. Reel is left/right convertible and pre-spooled with 20-pound line.

I don't think that braid would be the best option for a spincast reel. Spincasts are designed more for use with monofilaments. If you really want to use braid, you may want to look at getting a baitcast reel.

Because of the handle, it is more towards a trigger rod, however, you can use a baitcaster on this rod still.

Yes it does and I believe it is 20 lb. test. I would recommend re-spooling with 10 lb. when it's time to replace the line as you will get longer casts with the lighter line and 10 lb. test is fine for catching most freshwater fish including large carp and catfish.

I replaced line with 120yrd of 20#test spider wire proubly about half that with standard mono would be about right

had to remove at least 20 yards of line without a catch line winds up looser so reel will not wind up ll the way.
