Great rod Over this past summer I went and caught alot of big catfish at dirrfrent pay lakes in ohio. I bought and used a 10" casting ugly stik .This is a great rod I brought in a 36lb shovel head in like nothing, but the 70lb shovel out of catfishermans paradise II put up a big fight but i still got it in. This is a great rod for the money that you pay for it. December 30, 2007
10' Ugly Stick I purchased this rod as a starter because I wanted to spend more $ on my reel. I am going on 2 years and have not replaced this rod yet. I have my Shimano 6500B mated to this rod and I love it. I fish at many railroad bridges and the lenght of the handle is long enough that I can plant it into the 2 railroad rails and my 6500B is off the ground. I have stated in my other reviews that you get what you pay for. This holds true in this case too, but find another rod in this class for the money that can do a better job and is balanced to your reel...Good luck. Happy Fishing. July 8, 2007
12' XH Ugly Stik This rod is a behemoth! I bought it for snagging paddle fish. It works really well. You can launch your rig a mile, and pull up a ton of line with every pull. Also has a ton of backbone for setting the hook and fighting the fish. You can really lean on this rod and it can take it. One drawback for snagging purposes is it can wear you out in no time. It is a workout to use for this purpose. I personally could live with a much shorter handle. The handle section is about 4' long. Can be awkward at times, but is handy for casting long distances. If you need a rod to launch a heavy rig long distances for big fish, this will do the job! March 11, 2011
Great rod I've 2 1120 BWC 7 foot rods, used primarily for catfishing. They'll haul just about anything out of the water. The 1120 is a match for the Tiger rod at a more reasonable price. They make short work out of a 15 lb blue cat and have enough strength to pull a 20 lb flathead out of his hole. The flexibility of the rods make them great for drift fishing for catfish. The friend who turned me on to the rods uses his for alligator gar fishing. On a regular basis, he brings in 100+lb gar. His record to date is 180lbs These are rods that cannot be beat for quality and price. Get one, you won't regret it. April 23, 2008

However I need to know how many guides it has. For a rod that long it should have 9 guides and a tip, to support rod arc when fighting a big fish.

I currently have the Ugly Stick 12ft Heavy action rod. Purchased it for snagging Spoonbill in OK. However the butt of the rod is almost 3.5ft making it very combersome. I enjoy the overall action and length of the rod but I need a shorter butt. On Ugly Stick's 10ft rod what is the length of the butt from the reel down to the end? I need as much lenght as possible in a rod but I can't have a rod whose butt makes up 1/4 of it's total lenght.
