Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT ROD I got this rod about a year ago and i love it. i have had rods brake on me before from to big of fish. But thi sone has stood up to everthing i have put in its path from tarpon and mahi to benati and jack king fish and many other fish i have the 6.6 heavy action rod and the reel is a Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 7000 Baitcaster with 50 pound braided line this combo is great highly recomend it!! Rated 5 out of 5 by BWB 1130 is a Great Rod Love the BWB 1130. I have them teamed up with Shimano TLD-25s, and they work great on King Mackeral and Mahi, and will bring in the Sharks, Cudas, AJs and occasional Wahoo that go along with them. I use Ugly Sticks on all of my light and medium tackle rods, and they really hold up well and look great! I do wish their lighter casting rods had gimbal butts (for a Penn 975 size setup for example) ... February 13, 2007
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ugly stick and Grouper I caught a 21 inch RED-GROUPER on a light weight rod like for 8 to 12 pound line I use 20lb braided line. The rod was arched so hard I thought the reel was going to fall out and the rod was going to snap, These rods are tough. I am switching to all UGLY Stick rods. December 31, 2006
Rated 5 out of 5 by ugly stick I have purchsed five different Ugly Stick rods. From the heavy to an ultra light and I ove them all. I use nothing but Abu Garcia Cardinals Reels ont hem and it is an great match. For the money they can't be beat. July 14, 2006

Ugly 8 ft Boat Rod

Details:
I'm going Deepsea boat fishing and I have a two part question: Will an old Shimano 4500 work okay on this rod till I can afford a new reel?

When I DO get a reel for this, what would you get?

Thanks!
