Rated 5 out of 5 by bigwater boat rod This has got to be the best rod I have ever purchased for catfishing. I already own one and my wife requested that I find one for her! She was very happy it. May 9, 2010
Rated 3 out of 5 by Thought it was a great rod, but I've been using these rods for a few years with no complaints until a recent trip when while fighting a tuna, on a new rod, the gimbal snapped on the belt. Granted, this never happened before and shakespear will most likely honor a warranty, but it drew my attention to the fact that the gimbal is made of plastic and NOT metal, like it is on the BWSU series. Why make such a great rod and then put a cheap gimbal on it? September 10, 2009

Ugly 8 ft Boat Rod

Details:
I'm going Deepsea boat fishing and I have a two part question: Will an old Shimano 4500 work okay on this rod till I can afford a new reel?

When I DO get a reel for this, what would you get?

Thanks!
