Just what I needed This rod is exactly what I needed for a certain fishing location. This river is deep and has strong current requiring heavy sinkers to hold your bait or lures on bottom. With this heavy boat rod, casting heavy sinkers and reeling them back in is a breeze. I own three of these rods now. September 16, 2012
great expectations Based on other ugly sticks I've used, 5 stars all the way. This rod is intended for an upcoming gulf vacation. It will be paired with a Penn Sportfisher and like the tiger lite jigging rod, Wil be pulling in black/yellowfin tuna, snapper and grouper. December 16, 2014
Super Service I Bought 2 BWB 1120 * ft. rods. The service was excellent1 I am gonna inform everyone, these were NOT what I thought they were. I wanted an 8 foot 1 piece rod, that is what I got,,, but,, these rods are stiff as a 2x4! Very strong tip. I was hoping for a bit more action. Its the websites fault. If I could, I would rate the website a 1 star, but, I got my rods very quickly, came undamaged, so I got to give a 5 star. If you want a super heavy action rod, very strong back bone. These are the rods for you! August 24, 2014
Sturdy rods for river fishing I own the BWS 110066 and 110070 and love both of them. I use them for Ohio River catfishing and occasional saltwater vacation fishing. I love the handles because they are the perfect size for fighting large fish. These also have good backbone but are not like pool sticks either. This 39" Flathead was caught on the BWS110066 paired with an Okuma Coronado baitfeeder and Power Pro 30lb. braid. I would recommend a Shimano Baitrunner over the Okuma. I own both but the Baitrunner is more maintenance friendly. December 18, 2013

I have not specifically used that rod for that application. However, my experience with the Ugly Sticks is favorable. They have a lot of back bone and I have not had any problems using them on big fish. They are good value for the money. However, if you are leery about losing a big fish, I would invest a little more and make sure you have something that can stand that much weight and torque.

Hi, thank you for your inquiry. No, I have not used this rod to land shark from the shore. However, for shore fishing for shark you would need to look for a rod length to match the size of shark, see examples below.

Fishing for 2 to 6 foot sharks requires a 10 to 12 foot fishing rod. A 6 to 8 foot rod will be at least 5’ 7” to 7-foot rod rated at 50 pounds and metal alloy reel seats. For 8-foot sharks, you will want to order a 5 to 7 foot rod with a metal alloy reel seat with a minimum rating of 100 pounds. Other anglers have used surf rods and/or rod with roller guides. Thanks

Ugly 8 ft Boat Rod

Details:
I'm going Deepsea boat fishing and I have a two part question: Will an old Shimano 4500 work okay on this rod till I can afford a new reel?

When I DO get a reel for this, what would you get?

Thanks!

A:
The Shimano 4500 should work on this rod.

Penn 113H or Penn 113H2 Conventional reel matches up very well with this rod.
