Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Rods I needed a stiffer rod for trolling for rockfish in the bay other than the 8 footers pulling heavy baits or umbrella rigs. I have several other Ugly Stick rods for spinning reels, and they preform very well as advertised. Great product. Believe me, I am hard on fishing gear, and these Ugly Sticks live up to be one tough rod. March 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best boat rod I ever owned This was the 2nd Ugly Stik I bought. I like the 1st one so much, I bought this one for my son. This rod is perfect for deep water jigging or bait fishing. It has great sensitivity & feel. Very pleased with this purchase. October 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just what I needed This rod is exactly what I needed for a certain fishing location. This river is deep and has strong current requiring heavy sinkers to hold your bait or lures on bottom. With this heavy boat rod, casting heavy sinkers and reeling them back in is a breeze. I own three of these rods now. September 16, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by great bait stick This is the 2nd 8' Ugly Stick that I have purchased for Deep Sea Fishing. I primarily fish Hampton, N.H. and Newburyport, MA. for haddock, cod, and pollock. I also use it for jigging anything from 9 ounce to 24 ounce jigs. Works great. Haven't caught anything yet that it could not handle. Extremely satisfied with these rods. I have mine paired with a Shimano Torium 30 and 80 lb. braid. My wife's with a Daiwa Hyper-speed 35 and 80 lb. braid. July 7, 2012

Ugly 8 ft Boat Rod

Details:
I'm going Deepsea boat fishing and I have a two part question: Will an old Shimano 4500 work okay on this rod till I can afford a new reel?

When I DO get a reel for this, what would you get?

Thanks!

A:
The Shimano 4500 should work on this rod.

Penn 113H or Penn 113H2 Conventional reel matches up very well with this rod.

I believe it is 6 or 7 eyes. I do not have the rod right in front of me at the moment.
