super reel, great price I bought this as a combo with the 4' 6'' ultralite ugly stick for my 3 yr 10 month old nephew, we went fishing today. I know he's a bit young but with the underspinnig trigger mechanism he picked up casting and retrieving in less than 15 minutes, less time than my 9 yr old with the traditional spincasting reel. We fished for about 3 hours and the rod and reel were flawless. With over cranking, snaggings and putting the tip in the dirt, stuff all very young kids will do the set up worked fine all day. I enjoyed taking a turn with it as much as my own spinning reel. If the rod and reel hold up with this kind of little boy abuse I'll be very happy and buy more for my other nieces and nephews. Great Value Very light weight reel that cast very well. Works great on panfish and small bass. Easy to operate. June 2, 2011
Good at first then it was HORRIBLE this was one of the greatest reels i ever used the first two times i went fishing but after the reel was used and was weet and it had a little dirt inside ( you know the normal lake dirt) and now it wont catch the line i cleaned it realy good and it started to work agian until it gets wet inside and now it takes pulling on the line jerk the line puting tension on the line what ever it takes and im very upset beacause it was such a great reel to start out with but know cant say as much September 21, 2007
Explanation of problem. One of the reviews of this product bags it for the line twisting on the spool! The only way line can twist on a spool on this sort of reel is if something on the end of the line does the twisting, or the handle is turned whilst the reel is under load and no line is being retrieved. My grandson has been taught to cast on this reel and at 5 years has no problem. An excellent reel especially for kids - no over-runs and no loose rings of line. March 21, 2010

My daughter loves the reel, but it is now time to replace the line. Anyone know how to open this reel?

The whole cover unscrews just like a spincaster.

Just unscrew the reel face (the part with the hole that the line enters) and it will come off.
