My parents got this set for each of my daughters when they were six and three years old. My three year old caught a 14 inch large mouth bass as her first catch ever. Both daughters are hooked on fishing thanks to these rods.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ZZman Good product for the intent.
The two year old girl played with it and actually caught sun fish and a small bass. For the limited use we gave it, it was fine.

I bought this pole a year ago and have taken my daughter fishing a couple of times with it. She does catch fish with this combo.
As you can imagine the reel isnt the best. When she does have a fish on the line and she is reeling it in. The torqu,e or should I say the ease of which she can turn the handle, on the reel is not the most kid friendly.
I think the handle is a bit short and requires more muscle than it should for a kids pole.
Once she gets tired of reeling it in and I have to finish reeling it in. Even I have to admit that the friction on the reel ismore than what it should be.
Besides that she enjoys fishing with her princess pole. But she has been asking to upgrade to a "big kids" spinning rod and reel combo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by FishinDad32 Fun Days for a Little Girl!!
I bought this rod/reel combo for my five year old daughter to start learning how to fish. It accomplished this goal perfectly. There were two problems right out of the box, one very minor the other not as much so. The picture/description said it came with a princess crown shaped casting plug, however it comes with a large fish shaped plug. It mattered to my princess, but she got over it quickly! The larger issue was on the 2nd or 3rd practice cast the reel seized-up after the line release button locked. I took the reel off to find a large tangle of line as well as the locked button. I simply cut off the line and "popped" the inner button mechanism and it released. It only took 10-15 min total to fix. We have spent two afternoons fishing so far and have had zero problems. My daughter has taken very well to fishing and we have already had several hours of fun! There is no doubt in my mind that having a pink and purple pole w/ flashing handle and princess sticker has contributed to her enjoyment up to this point. She has caught several fish both days, w/ only the large bass she caught (12-15 inches) needing an assist from me to reel them in as the drag is not very strong even all the way up. For the sunfish and bluegill she has had no problems!
She has out-fished her dad both days, and I am so proud of her and have never had a more fun day of fishing!!
