Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Buy Used it a hand full of times works well, no complaints. Overall great rod and reel combo. May 18, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Nice reel Horrible Rod The reel was smooth but the rod broke after a bass hit and i set the hook. I dont recomend buying this combo December 27, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good all around This is not the best rod I have ever used, but it works pretty well, and I've caught my fair share of fish with it, and it holds up well. Reading some other reviews, a lot of people have criticized the line, which does have a cheap and plastic-ish feel to it, but still works without any problems. It holds up well with everything from bass to pike and I've even caught a monster 9lb bowfin on it. over all, it's a very good deal for the money, but it is a lie to say that this kit comes with everything you need. Some other stuff you will want if you intend to start fishing with this kit and don't have any other gear: -Sliding sinkers (to use with soft plastics) -A few spinners (I recommend roostertails) -A good big spinnerbait -A spoon That said, the rod and real work very well, and I'd recommend this to anyone on a low budget. A:
I bought the medium/heavy rod rated for 10-17lbs, and snapped the rod in half with 6 lb test. You would be better off going with a catfish rod and reel rated for a higher lb test.

Can hold 210 yds. of 8lb monofilament, which it comes pre-spooled with. It can also hold either 190 yds. of 10lb monofilament or 340 yds. of 6lb. I'd recommend you spool it with 20 or 30 lb braid.

Staff Answer
A:
Line capacity is for mono – 340 yds/6 lb; 230 yds/8 lb; 190 yds/10 lb.

It comes pre-spooled with 8 lb line.

it's rated up to 10lb test, but if you get spiderline, you can probably find some is 20lb test thin enough to still spool a couple hundred yards of line..

Yes yes, they do make a CATCH MORE FISH SHAKESPEARE COMBO, but do you think that if you are in an area with catfish AND bass, that you could catch catfish on THIS ROD with no problems?

there should be no problem unless you hook into one that will snap your line ... dont worry about stressed rod or reel the line breaks first 99.99% of the time
