Rated 2 out of 5Â by LunkerHunter5006 Should be sealed in the bottom
These rod holders are open down in the bottom of them and they should have been sealed to help keep the water out of my kayak. I already owned two of these holders which were sealed in the bottom of them. All of these type holders should be made sealed in the bottom so the purchaser can deside whether they want it sealed or open.
I would recommend this product to a friend if it didn't matter to them if it were sealed or open at the bottom.

Well designed unit as a flush mont, but in descrption does not say if ths rod holder will work with gimbal mount. It needed the pin at the bottom to work with gimbal mount

I purchased these to install on plastic kayaks to facilitate trolling. They were easy to install, just use a 2" hole saw and then trim the backside with a knife to allow a good fit, seal with silicone and obtain flat head 1/4" bolts. These are bigger than standard size kayak rod holders, but have an opening at the bottom to allow water to drain out. If you do not wish to have water drain out the bottom into your boat, purchase a different model or use a 2" rubber quick cap from your local plumbing store to seal it up.
