AWESOME!!! i bought this gun to kill groundhogs and wood chucks on my grand fathers farm and i decided to use it to hunt with very VERY accurate cheap to fire flat shooting fast i recently killed a fox at 87 yrds with a single shot and it dropped November 8, 2010
Stands the Test of Time I bought this exact model 3 years ago, and have fed it pretty much Hornady V-Max ammo the entire time. I did upgrade the scope about two years ago to a Bushnell Banner 17, but the basic scope was fine out to 150 yards before the upgrade. I wanted to take it further and the stock scope was just not good enough for my poor eyesight. This is one of the most accurate rifles I own, and this specific rifle has been instrumental in several other friends and family buying a Savage 17HMR. There is something about breaking clays at 250 yards with boring regularity that just does it for folks. My 11 year old nephew can handle it just fine, as can his 54 year old grandmother. Great Little Rifle I recently purchased one of these rifles and installed a 6x18x40 BDC scope. Wow! What a package. I bought it to go varmit hunting with my friends. We wound up rabbit hunting a lot and with this rifle you can put a lot of "meat on the table". Once the scope was sighted-in at the range, 150 yard head shots became almost routine! I use 17gr V-Max ammo exclusively. For the money, this is the most fun shooting I've had in a long time. I recommend the Savage Arms 17 highly! September 10, 2011
93r17 camo package fanstic accuracy, out of the box zero with a leupold bore site 1st round @50 yards edge of 10 ring 9 clock 1 click right 4 dead center cover with a dime moved 100 yards 5 shot group same covered with a dime my wife is my witness. Out shot my .222. clip is a pain, stock touching along the right side of barrel used a drimal to trim the stock before i shot this rifle i intend to buy 1 for my son and son in law. only reason 4 stars is because of clip and stock need work February 21, 2011

A:
No. It is close. Or at least the one I bought 3 years ago was, don't remember exactly how much it was out, but it was. No prob, part of the fun of a new rifle and scope are getting to know them. I see folks that can zero in 3 shots, I'm not that guy and don't want to be. I'll run 75-100 rounds through any new rifle the first day for break in, and to learn how much heat and rapid fire affect accuracy. With this individual rifle it goes 2" left and 1/2" high when it gets hot.

Wasn't aligned out of the box, but the adjustments were easy. You will see a knob on the top and the side of the scope to adjust up/down and left/right

What is its length of pull?

Details:
I have long arms (34/35 shirt sleeves) and find a 14" or so more comfortable than those closer to 13". Do you have suggestions for other possibilities? Thank you.

A:
I find it a bit short, but added a recoil pad for extra length. The 17HMR is so mild on recoil it was not necessary for kick, simply to extend length of pull. I don't have a tape handy but would guess somewhere around 13 1/2", and is now about 14 1/2".

If you really like it, the length of pull can be changed by adding a butt pad, I have seen them as much as one inch plus that can be easily installed.

Yes, you can get this rifle handed, but you get a wood stock and you will need to buy a scope and rings, separately.
