Brilliant all-around reliable performers, the Sage 1800 Series Reels feature lightweight, yet durable aluminum construction with a non-glare titanium finish. Designed with a large arbor, these reels are equipped with a quick-release spool change, premium sealed graphite drag system and a comfortable machined handle. Innovative floating tripod drag system provides an ultra-smooth startup, consistency and the power you'd expect from a reel costing three times as much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Reel Great Price I bought the 1880 to go with my Sage VT2 7 weight and what a match! The reel not only looks good, its performs like a much higher priced reel. This Reel is a bargain for its price point and a welcome addition to any anglers arsenal, even for the most modest of budgets. To have a balanced Sage Rod & Reel in hand is a dream come true. I plan to order another Reel for my 10 weight Spey rod come next pay cheque. Fast shipping from Bass Pro as usual make the on-line ordering a breeze March 11, 2011

It doesn't have silent retrieve but its not annoying by any means. It has a slightly more audible click for outgoing but its not annoying either.

Answers

A:
As with any reel it will handle saltwater just fine as long as you clean it with freshwater after the outing.

Staff Answer
A:
This is an All Water Reel. Therefore, it will work as a saltwater reel and saltwater proof. Might still rinse off with freshwater after use.

A:
Most, if not all Fly reels are ambidextrous by design. The 1800 line are easily used by lefties or righties.
