i am 68 and have been hunting for 61 years. i have owned hundreds of cutting tools over the years. i just purchased a SOG Machete. the third blow on a 1" limb, the blade bent. about the tenth blow, a two inch section broke out of the blade. on my second use, another one inch section broke out of the blade. I HAVE USED IT TWO (2) TIMES AND I AM MISSING 3"' OF BLADE. This thing is more like a kids toy, than an adult cutting tool. buyers beware. There is definitely something wrong with the metal in this blade.

Used the SOGfari 18" Machete for about an hour clearing brush for shooting lanes for bowhunting. Worked flawlessly. It is remakably sharp for a machete. Chopped through 3/4" green limbs like butter. 10 times better than the Gerber machete that was duller than butter knives my my kitche drawer. I can not attest for the bad reviews, but again I love mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Highpockets Strong Blade
I purchased this only as an impulse buy. I used it tonight on saplings up to 3 inches and the undergrowth of a 40 foot red cedar. The under branches of a red cedar are very hard and dry. It worked without flaw. I read the other reviews after my use and can only say there are many folks that do not know how to properly use a chopping blade. I can break mine if I strike with glancing blows or sink the blade and twist. One guy claimed rose bushes took his out, really rose bushes? Machete blades can and do break but will last for years if you strike properly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JLyons SOG Family Here But This Is TERRIBLE.
We are an SOG family for sure. The SOG Tomahawk is one of the finest tools ever devised. I own many SOF pocket knives and they are my gift giving item of choice. That being said however, I bought 2 SOG machetes for our camping gear. I practiced with one on out rose bushes and gardenias that we no longer wanted. The rose bushes were about 3-4 feet tall and the gardenias the same. The thickest parts of these had a diameter less than an average man's thumb.
The blades bent within the first probably three swings. The cutting edge had significant broken and deformations that are non-correctible rendering the blade useless. I am so disappointed in SOG's manufacturing. I would suggest ANY other machete than the SOG.
Regarding all other SOG products, you can't find any better ones.
