Rule Float Switches - 20 Amp Rule-A-Matic Plus 2.7 5 3 3
Rule Float Switch Good switch, but generally only last me two years before they quit. Be sure to test your switch regularly! February 22, 2009
Fit issues I bought this switch as a replacement for the earlier (contained mercury) version of the 20 Amp Rule A Matic. If you do the same, be advised that this version is slightly larger than the old one. Specifically, the distance between the mounting holes is about 1/2 inch longer so you will need to drill at least one new hole. The wiring on this version seems more substantial than the old one. My old one died because of corrosion in the wiring so that looks like an improvement. March 24, 2011
Stay Away This switch malfunctions and continues to drain your battery even if there is no water present. This was my second one after I returned the other and it lasted 1 month. Stick with a fully auto Bildge pump instead! May 23, 2012

Answer this Question

2 wires. Switch is designed to go inline from the "auto mode" of the bilge pump switch to the pump. Turns on the pump when bilge water gets high enough to trip the switch. Manual mode wire to pump bypasses the float switch. 3rd wire you mention is probably the hot wire to the switch.

Two wires, although the 3rd wire from your switch will need to be used as well. This product is easy to install.
