Ruger® SP101® Revolver
Great all purpose gun.
The one I bought is a little different than the one pictured. Mine has a 4" barrel and adjusable rear sights, other than that it's the same. I got it for my wife and she loves it. I steal it away from her from time to time when hog hunting. It's a very small but very tough gun. She shoots 158gr Hornady XTP. When hog hunting I use 180gr hard cast Buffalo Bore ammo and we have had no problems out of it. If you want a lighter triger pull, Wilson Combat sells a kit for about $30 and you can install it yourself in about 15 min.

Excellent base self defense revolver
This was my first handgun purchase when I was a young man about 20 years ago. I was a busy young businessman from a non-military background or family. However, our family shot handguns & hunted, so I was not unaquainted with firearms.
I purchased this handgun about the age of 30 after my brother convinced me that a 5' 8" 150# white male needed the ability to say "no" while living in the Greater Houston area.
I did my research and bought this gun because of ease of use, a heavy stainless steel block, and the ability to shoot really hot loads (+P & +P+).
20 years later, it is still true to its heritage. I've become more proficient in my hand gun training so I now own more sophisticated weapons, but for a "starter revolver," this gun cannot be beat.
This gun will enable neophytes the ability to say "no" to bad guys. That's what this gun is designed to do.
However, the hotter loads (+P & +P+) will probably be used only by males because the recoil on those rounds is so hot; it really wrips your wrists and I suspect that most women don't have the same wrist strength as males.
That being said, if a woman loaded this revolver with expensive personal defense rounds, she'll survive an experience if a bad guy tries to take away her right to say "no."
And no, I will not sell it!

Very slick pocket gun
Was a 25 year+ loyalist of S & W J-frame. When taking my daughter to get her first S & W, a 642CT, the SP 101 caught my eye. Always liked GP series so bought this and find it to be a much more sturdy weapon than the S & W. I like a heavier revolver and this is also capable of digesting 357 rounds although they are a bit much in this small of a gun. Accurate considering barrell length, dependable EVERY TIME you pull the trigger, and the stainless is much easier to care for. If you are only going to own one handgun, this is the one. Nobody ever gets confused in the dark of night with a dependable revolver. Additionally, the 321XL bobbed hammer won't snag on anything when being drawn from a pocket.
